Genelec G SongLab enhances musical creativity in young people
This initiative offers an international online learning community for all young composers from among 13 y 29 years, so they can work from home and share their songs with other people.
The latest initiative of Genelec Academy, G SongLab, offers young people free and secure access to an online learning community, through which they can collaborate and talk with other people in the development of their skills in composition and musical creation.
“Musical creation belongs to everyone and if we can help young people learn and find their own path in life, then this will be the best prize. In the difficult times we live in, we believe that music can help generate hope, sense of belonging and a shared determination to help others and survive.”, explica Juho Martikainen de Genelec.
Launched in Helsinki, The initiative is a collaboration between Genelec, brand distributed by Audio-Technica Iberia, and various entities including Tiuku Public Information Cultural Factory, the city of Helsinki, the Helsinki University of the Arts and the research initiative ArtsEqual, who have joined forces to motivate and support the active participation of young people in musical creation, and the sense of social integration and camaraderie that this entails.
The G SongLab concept has been developed by a team of composers and music educators led by Petter Korkman and Anna Kuoppamäki. The project offers an international online learning community for all young composers between 13 y 29 years, so they can work from home and share their songs with other people. This is especially beneficial in times of a global epidemic like Covid-19..
“Anyone can write a song just like anyone can draw a picture.”. Songwriting is a powerful form of self-expression and connecting with others through music.. It's a way to make your points of view known., experiences and feelings; a way to explain who you are. We want to be both ears and speakers, so to speak, carefully listening, but also actively projecting this polyphony of voices to the world”, aggregated by Petter Korkman and Anna Kuoppamäki.
Genelec, for its part, will contribute to the educational program by teaching some of the fundamentals of sound and audio monitoring, so that participants can learn how to evaluate and improve the quality of their work.
A selection of the music created during the workshops will be shared with the general public through the Genelec Music YouTube channel, along with live performances by workshop participants that will be broadcast from the Genelec Artist Room in Helsinki.
To celebrate the launch, Genelec is preparing the G SongLab Songwriting Challenge, a composition contest, with which it invites young music creators to send their original songs.
The challenge will be open to young people from all over the world, and the three most innovative participants will receive a high-quality home studio recording pack that will include Genelec products, Universal Audio, Ableton, Audio-Technica, Native Instrument, and the opportunity to perform your song live at the Genelec Artist Room.
