With a much more limited and safe capacity, the enormous statue 'The country is calling', one of the ten highest in the world, has starred in this projection show to remember the end of the Second World War and the triumph over fascism in this country.
This year's special circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic have meant that Victory Day celebrations in Russia, which is celebrated every 9 May to commemorate the end of World War II and the triumph over fascism, had a more limited format in favor of safety and health.
Even so, Thousands of spectators were able to participate in this celebration thanks to the live broadcast of the projected mapping show, in collaboration with the Museum of the Battle of Stalingrad, on the monumental statue The country calls you which stands on top of Mamayev Kurgan, the hill overlooking the Russian city of Volgograd.
To project images onto this sculpture, 87 meters high and one of the ten tallest in the world, the experts of Dreamlaser resorted to high-projection pure laser equipment Christie, specifically sixteen D4K40-RGB projectors, each with a power of 40.000 Ansi lumens, equipped with the TruLife electronic platform and the RealLaser lighting system, both also from this manufacturer.
This advanced solution allowed the team to project with more than 90% of the Rec.2020 color space and create a set of images full of life, color and realism on the emblematic sculpture.
As Denis Chuchko explains, co-founder of Dreamlaser, “We have been working on the illumination of the great statue for years, but this year was special. Today we have the capacity to illuminate a monument of this size with a very small number of projectors.. The difference is made by the quality and richness of color and the intensity of RGB laser technology.”.
Very important aspects from the perspective of the television broadcast of this celebration, since “we knew that thousands of spectators were going to follow the show, live and on recordings - Chuchko remembers -. Besides, This year we incorporated augmented reality elements; “We installed a total of twenty-six extra lights on the top of Mamayev Kurgan and set the hill on fire with thousands of LED bars.”.
