Digital Projection takes visitors into the universe of data at Ryoji Ikeda exhibition
The Data-Verse Trilogy Ryoji Ikeda It has been possible to see it in its entirety on three screens thanks to the laser projectors of Digital Projection Insight 4K. An installation that has allowed us to offer an immersive exhibition with spectacular details of the universe.
Known for his works, created from data and acoustics, Japanese audiovisual artist Ryoji Ikeda showed the latest installment of his Data-Verse exhibition series at 180 Studios, 180 The Strand. Three high-speed projectors were used for its staging. Digital Projection láser Insight 4K.
The exhibition, purified by Fact y The Vinyl Factory, took a tour of Ikeda's five years of work in the Data-Verse, who investigates, through an audiovisual experience, science the natural world using large data sets from NASA and the Human Genome Project, DNA sequences, galactic coordinates and quantum physics.
The event marked the first time that the entire Data-Verse trilogy, las 12 works of art, commissioned by Audemars Piguet Contemporary, were available to enjoy in a single location, with previous data-verse installments released in 2019. Audemars Piguet has been a key partner in the success of Ryoji Ikeda's solo exhibition in London.
Since the exhibition also featured a series of never-before-seen installations, it was even more important that the works were represented effectively. To offer the best viewing experience, the projectors had to be of the highest quality possible to reproduce the smallest details of the large data sets that made up the works of art. For this, 180 The Strand trusted Digital Projection's Insight 4K projectors.
«We had already worked with Ryoji before in 180 and the Venice Biennale, so we were aware that his work requires the most cutting-edge and quality technology to be exhibited., hence we selected these projectors», comment Neil Thomas, Head of Production 180 The Strand & London AV. «We previously did a Data-Verse test and we could see the potential of 4K, so we knew it was the right decision.".
Digital Projection's Insight 4K laser projectors offer solid-state lighting of 27.000 lumens with a resolution of 4,096×2.160, providing four times the resolution of a standard HD projector. The level of crystalline detail was an interesting advantage for Ikeda's exhibition, since it guaranteed that no detail was lost.
«Ryoji and his studio are very autonomous and thorough in their preparation, allowing me to focus on perfecting the building elements you need for your artworks.", Thomas continues. The projectors adapt to various types of installations, as they have the ability to project large and detailed images with a single projector, when before it was necessary to combine two or more. Con 20.000 hours of illumination of solid state laser light source, The Insight 4K laser has high efficiency and reliability.
The three projectors were placed in different locations in the studio to achieve maximum effect. One of the projectors was placed on the ceiling, while the other two were installed in separate columns built exclusively for the installation.
«The weight of the projectors, "The height for their installation and the fact that we had to place them in an inverted position were aspects to take into account in the project.", Thomas explains.. «This forced us to raise two columns for the projectors, that we disguise as elements of the original building».
The result of the choice of projectors and the work done in the installation was an immersive experience that reproduced the intensity of the dazzling works in great detail., which some enjoyed 85.000 visitors throughout the exhibition. «We have had a very satisfactory response to this work, which is the first time it is projected in 3 screens at the same time, concludes Thomas.
