Balearic Islands takes Fitur 2023 a sustainable destination metaverse

The Balearic archipelago participates in the tourism fair, which today opens its doors in Ifema Madrid, with an innovative stand, where visitors can enjoy an immersive, real-time experience in the metaverse, with the platform AltSpace VR.

Feature 2023, which today opens its doors in Ifema Madrid until the day 22 January, welcomes in the pavilion 7 the innovative space of Balearic Islands (estand 7B08) which this year is betting on the tourism fair with an initiative that combines sustainability with virtual reality.

This is possible thanks to the generation of a first virtual world within the metaverso (AltSpace VR) made by the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands (Aetib), a virtual replica of the physical stand present at Fitur 2023 that creates a space inspired by the oceanic Posidonia, the endangered aquatic plant that lives in the Mediterranean.

The main objective is that visitors can enjoy a immersive experience while they take a brief virtual tour of the tourist attractions of Mallorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, as well as learn about the initiatives that are being carried out in this archipelago in terms of sustainability, according to the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) established in the Agenda 2030.

In order to access the virtual stand and enjoy all its content in real time and the immersive experience, the use of AltSpace VR is necessary., a platform participated by Microsoft featuring expressive avatars and engaging visuals and surround sound.

Metaverso y NFT

The generation of this new virtual space is completed with an initiative linked to the digital environment: the publication of five NFT collections (not fungible tokens). It's about the project Poseidonics NFT, in which five superheroes need the collaboration of users to raise awareness about the need to make tourist destinations sustainable.

Visitors have to choose the NFT of one of the available superheroes, so that they evolve by carrying out a series of actions within the surroundings Twitter, so they must have a profile on this social network.

These actions are linked to the twelve Sustainable Development Goals (ODS): economy, local prosperity, quality of employment, cultural equity, ecosystem integrity, biological diversity, resource efficiency and environmental purity.

The reward for those who participate is to contribute their grain of sand in the arduous task of raising awareness among the population regarding the need for sustainable development of tourist destinations, as well as being part of the project SavePosidonia and collaborate in the protection and conservation of this plant in danger of extinction, in addition to participating in a contest to travel to the Balearic Islands.
