Digital Projection generates the 270º cartographic projection of Louis XV in Versailles
Entertainment Technology Center you have created a curved map projection, of 270º, with three E-Vision Laser projectors 11000 of Digital Projection, each with a power of 10.500 lumens, to enhance the famous Passemant astronomical clock, icon of the reign of Louis XV.
Louis XV, Passions of a king is the first big exhibition dedicated to Louis XV, the well loved, that celebrates the third centenary of the return of the French Court to Versailles, for what gathers near four hundred works from collections around the world, many of whom had never been seen in public, shedding new light on the monarch's complex personality.
Open until next time 19 of February in the Versailles Palace, The tour of the exhibition begins with a spectacular piece: the famous Passemant astronomical clock, icon of the reign as well as one of the personal passions of Louis XV.
After meticulous restoration work sponsored by Rolex France, the clock welcomes visitors to a room displaying historical documents, drawings and related files projected on an imposing curved screen.
The French event and content creation agency e’motion and the technical service provider Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) have joined forces to enhance the 18th century clock with a p270˚ curved map projection and the technology of Digital Projection.
One of the main requirements was that the integration blend seamlessly into the exhibition, so that visitors would naturally focus on the key piece and not on the technology displayed in the room.
Stéphane Bazoge, ETC project manager, this is how he explains it: “It is the first time that the Palace of Versailles allows a immersive exhibition inside. There were a number of requirements, among them discretion, essential not only when it comes to seeing the final result, but also while the exhibition was being set up”
The approach to achieve it, adds Bazoge “it was similar to that of a high-end store: Disruptions had to be kept to a minimum during the integration phase, respecting the environment as much as possible and with the ultimate goal of enhancing what visitors would see and providing them with an unforgettable experience. It was also our first project with the client, who was looking for a reliable and responsive technical service”.
ETC decided that E-Vision Laser projectors 11000 4K-UHD of Digital Projection were the most suitable to offer a high quality and reliable image. Three of these equipment are installed on the roof of the wooden structure of the exhibition, creating a perfect image of 3,6 meters high by 7 wide, whose curved shape surrounds and highlights the royal clock located in the center of the room.
“We work with the internal workshops of Versailles to guarantee good stability in the wooden structure where the projectors are installed,” Bazoge points out.. We also use our experience to choose the right colors for a perfect visual representation, “We advise graphic designers on the visual project and adapt some text effects to the structure”.
Each of the three E-Vision Laser projectors offers a power of 10.500 lumens, with 4K UHD resolution to offer optimal level of detail, so that visitors can benefit from this great projection without stealing the spotlight from each element of the astronomical clock.
“We needed projectors powerful enough to compete with the natural light coming from the main entrance to the exhibition and with the spotlights on the clock, a configuration that is not very different from the lighting of a shop. This meant that projectors had to achieve the right lighting power and resolution.”, adds the head of ETC.
The management and processing of the immersive content projected on the curved wall is done with the multimedia servers and show control Onlyview, property of ETC, which take care of the distortion and blending necessary to create an optimal image.
Content is delivered through a computer with a dedicated graphics card that powers the projectors via 4K HDMI to deliver the 3,840 image.×2.160p. E-Vision Laser projectors 11000 4K-UHD have been equipped with a specific lens 0,55:1 for short projection distance, three meters.
Bazoge explains that “it was also essential that the system was as user-friendly as possible and did not require maintenance from the client.”. We deliver a turnkey solution with connection functions, disconnection and bypass that met your requirements. Digital Projection Regional Sales Director, Stéphane Bourdon, He was also with us at all times, helping us make the integration process and delivery a success”.
This is what he assures Silvia Roman, head of the exhibition department of the Castle of Versailles: “TC's work has been carried out in accordance with the technical descriptions of the specifications; The entire project has been carried out with great professionalism, rigor and respect for deadlines”.
