Extron Provides AV Technology to Utah Tech University
Nearly 200 educational spaces, between classes, laboratories and conference rooms in the new building of this university are equipped with control systems, audio amplification, AV switching and distribution Extron.
To equip the new Science building, Engineering and Technology (SET) of the Utah Tech University, of some 15.143 square meters, with the latest AV technology, Shaun Hayes, senior center audiovisual administrator, hired the integrator Marshall Industries for assistance in design and installation, who opted for Extron solutions.
Utah Tech is a public university located in St. George (Utah). Approximately 12.500 students pursue studies aimed at master's degrees and degrees in art, business, education, health sciences, humanities and STEM. Practice an educational model based on active learning, student career preparation and industry collaboration that is designed to foster the region's economic and workforce growth.
Beyond the new AV systems installed in the SET building, university AV staff implemented AV standardization initiative, retrofitting a mix of disparate AV systems and unreliable accessories, in 175 rooms 31 buildings, to create standard systems based on Extron technology.
Standard cases
The SET building houses the university's CITM departments. AV resources range from single-screen classrooms to large multi-screen classrooms to anatomy labs with dissection tables. They have a camera and viewing device to make it easier for groups to see without having to crowd around the tables..
Twenty standard classrooms located on all floors of the building are used for teaching various science and engineering subjects including chemistry, microbiology, geology, physical… AV systems in all these classes have the same design, look and style. This allows teachers to teach any class with tools they know well. The uniformity of the system also makes it easier to maintain.
Every standard class AV system revolves around a Matrix Switcher for DTP CrossPoint 4K Presentations, con audio amplifier integrated and control processor. AV content is displayed through a flat screen display device 86 inches or a projector, depending on class design.
The instructor uses a TouchLink Pro touch screen 7 inches to select from five HDMI inputs including instructor station computer, a document camera, a guest's laptop, content from wireless devices, delivered via a solution ShareLink Pro 500, or video from a auto tracking PTZ camera.
Wireless microphones allow instructors to reinforce their voices through a single ceiling speaker powered by the array's integrated amplifier. A directional microphone array in the ceiling captures room audio. Video and audio from the array and directional microphone are connected via a USB MediaPort 200 from Extron to instructor station computer, who uses a conferencing app to communicate with remote students.
Oversized cots
Maintaining the concept of homogeneity, the large classes on the first floor, second and third, and a large classroom on the main floor take advantage of the design impulse of the same AV system as the standard classes, aumentado, para acomodar más metros cuadrados y más ocupación.
Large rooms are also equipped with a presentation matrix switcher configured with more input and output ports..
NAV Pro in anatomy laboratories
Two combinable anatomy laboratories contain 16 dissection stations. Above every station, A video camera points downward to capture anatomy details during dissections.
A flat screen display device 86 inches, wall mounted, at the head of each table, shows what the camera captures. And sistema NAV de AV sobre IP allows video from any dissection station to be viewed on the display of one or all stations in any laboratory, in addition to four other screens 43 inches, including the instructor stations of both laboratories.
Everyone can see the activity at any dissection station without having to crowd around it.
Duplicating standardized AV system design, anatomy labs include ShareLink Pro 500 to share content wirelessly from portable devices. They use climbing bridges USB MediaPort 200 to deliver anatomy lab audio and video to remote students participating in lab sessions via conferencing applications.
Wireless microphones and a directional microphone array mounted on the ceiling of each lab capture the instructor's voice and room audio, and they deliver it to a total of 10 ceiling speakers through an audio signal processor and a MPA amplifier 601 in each laboratory.
Users control AV system functions, including routing of AV content over IP, from a TouchLink Pro touchscreen 7 inches mounted on the wall of each laboratory. a single IPCP Pro control processor 250 and a AV over IP Navigator systems manager control the configuration and signal routing of the AV system of both laboratories.
Conference and study rooms
Three standard conference rooms with identical AV systems are available for staff and students on the second floors., third and fourth.
A DTP2 matrix Select between two wired HDMI sources accessed via a Cubby cable on the conference table. In the room with portable devices you can contribute AV content wirelessly via the ShareLink Pro 500. A DTP2 receiver delivers selected video content to a flat panel display device. 75 inches and sends the audio to the ceiling speakers through an MPA amplifier 601.
Located on the fifth floor, the dean's conference room has a similar AV layout as the other conference rooms. However, The size of the flat screen display device has been increased to 86 inches and a communications camera with microphone and video codec has been incorporated so that it can be equipped for video conferencing applications.
Eight study rooms, small and private, They are located next to the student areas on the third floors, fourth and fifth. Each of them has a collaboration system for HC meetings 402 makes it easy to share ideas. When a presenter connects his or her laptop to the HDMI connection on the HC system wall plate 402, The system is turned on and the speaker's video and audio appear on the flat screen display device. 43 inches of the room. When not busy, AV system turns itself off.
