Extron replaces UTEP's analog AV systems
NAV AVoIP solutions from Extron have made it possible to respond to the demanding requirements of the learning rooms of the Rehabilitation Sciences complex of this educational center. The objective was to encourage collaboration between students.
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) It is one of the largest in the area and stands out for being a public research institute, positively impacting health, the culture, the education and economy of the Hispanic community they serve. The project in which Extron technology has been integrated focuses on the complex of Rehabilitation Sciences from the UTEP, where an AV system has been designed for the multi-use active learning spaces of the training facilities.
These classes are used for specialized rehabilitation and nursing health services training studies.. To update active learning rooms, The plan included replacing the original analog AV systems with a fully digital AV solution.
Divisible rooms had to function as active learning spaces and include remote training capabilities. Each room required multiple display devices that could be operated independently or in combination. The AV system also had to support a series of devices, from the university servers and Apple TV to the devices of students and teachers (BYOD).
To visually reinforce lessons, The AV system needed to support the ability to zoom in with any of the cameras in the room to demonstrate physical therapy and rehabilitation techniques during live demonstrations.. Besides, They had to be able to divide into smaller spaces, allowing groups of individual students to collaborate as a team at a training station.
Active learning rooms
Each multipurpose active learning room includes two instructor stands, five stations for student teams with a interactive touch screen 75 inches in each one, and a projection system at the front of the room with a screen 165 inches.
Sources vary from university servers and Apple TV to PTZ cameras, a computer at the instructor's lectern and AV connectivity for personal devices at each station and lectern. Students can annotate presentations directly on their station and save the screen with their notes for later review.
Content from any source can be sent to one or more display devices over the university network using the system Professional AVoIP NAV by Extron.
NAV interconnection
The NAV system has been implemented as a high-performance AV array, combining the flexibility of a IP based system with the virtual video and audio switching.
Video signals are distributed across the UTEP network at ultra-low bit rates and latency, also ensuring optimal image quality. The same system also supports audio signals, making the installation more efficient.
Los 1G NAV scaler encoders and decoders are integrated into each station and instructor lectern. To manage NAV remote points, he NAVigator systems manager has been installed on the main lectern, allowing teachers to customize the selection and presentation of content that best suits their own teaching style.
Compared to a traditional application, The support team finds the new AV system easy to integrate and maintain, and faculty have appreciated the quick switching and simple operation..
Teachers are able to make individualized requirements on AV systems to suit their own teaching style., especially compared to a traditional system.
At the moment, The instructor controls the AV system during the training session and students operate it after class for study and reference during practical sessions at the training stations. Future expansion of the system will allow students to also control the capabilities of the workstation.
As with the other learning and meeting spaces on campus, the support team uses Extron's GlobalViewer Enterprise to monitor and manage new AV systems anywhere on campus. Depending on the installation team, The integration of NAV systems in such complex spaces was simple and direct.
New UTEP Rehabilitation Sciences Complex Delivers Multiple Interprofessional Training Environments, in addition to providing clinical services to the community.
The first phase of the upgrade of the UTEP rehabilitation sciences complex, including the two large active learning classes, It was completed in just six months. The following phases were also carried out and launched as planned. The next phase will allow instructors to use QR codes, personal tablets and smartphones to control each room and the AV system.
UTEP is committed to the student population of the region, often neglected by higher education institutions. Your use of technologies such as those in professional AVoIP NAV products, Extron streaming and control technology clearly demonstrates that they are focused not only on education, but also in helping each student excel in their chosen field of study and career..
