To carry out this modernization and transformation project, The Nixel and Performance series screens have been used. Nanolumens. These devices are used for digital signage applications and to keep travelers better informed..
The new terminal Kansas City International Airport has designed an innovative terminal where the digital signage infrastructure It is based on Nanolumens technology. They have been invested 1.500 million dollars in a project that sought to transform the travel experience of millions of passengers a year.
Kansas City Aviation Department (KCAD) focused on creating a visually unified and technologically advanced brand strategy that integrated an intuitive messaging system and an optimized passenger journey from entry to check-in, going through security check, for all airlines operating within the check-in and ticketing terminal.
The transformation of this airport has been the result of a joint effort between Nanolumens and Dimensional Innovations (FROM). Together they have integrated an innovative visual experience at the airport ticket sales counters. Y, for it, have worked closely with other consultants and architects such as Henderson Engineering y Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SEAM), being the most prominent.
One of the most important challenges addressed in this collaboration was accommodating the fixed structural columns in the terminal. This restriction was a crucial factor. Nanolumens was able to meet the precise dimensions required for banknote backwall displays. For this he used six Nixel screens to create a “Digital Drywall” without joints, ranging from 4,8 a 1,8 meters wide, that fit into built-in spaces.
This extensive digital canvas allows each airline to prominently display its brand, offering dynamic high resolution images that captivate passengers who go on a trip. The display's color accuracy and pixel resolution ensure each brand's content is presented with crystal clarity. , creating a consistent and engaging experience.
DI was tasked with developing a real-time content management system that would allow the airport and different airlines to promptly modify the information displayed as necessary.. This system, that works with Green Hippo of TVOne, ensures that exclusive content for each airline is integrated into the overall screen, providing a personalized experience behind each ticket counter.
Whether it is updating flight information, display airline logos or adjust lane queuing details, The system offers flexibility and ease of use.
The renovation also includes several wall elements on the back counter, with Nanolumens providing Nixel dvLED screens with a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm. This installation includes 15 Freestanding video walls in six different sizes, that combine to create a massive digital canvas with more than 18 million pixels. These rear wall displays allow airlines to present their logos, flight information and other important updates, further improving the passenger experience.
In the arrivals area, a Nixel dvLED screen 1.5 mm de Nanolumens, smaller than the previous one but equally impressive, what measures 4,5 feet per 1,8 metros, adorn the information desk with a rear tube mounting solution, offering clear and concise information to arriving passengers. This manufacturer's degrees of freedom allowed the screens to adapt to the space, eliminating the need for it to fit specific screen dimensions. Besides, Ten double-sided screens have been strategically placed Nanolumens Performance de 5.9 mm, each of 1,7 meters wide by almost a meter high, in the billing area.
Nanolumens' dvLED Performance series displays were also chosen to align with the architectural parameters of the new terminal., integrating with the pillars, fascia and other structural elements, while providing cutting-edge technology and durability.
The Performance Series is mounted on custom poles in a flag configuration, further enhancing the passenger experience from the moment they arrive at the airport. These displays ensure that every aspect of the terminal reflects the cutting-edge, visually cohesive design KCI envisioned for its new era of air travel..
The airport's new digital signage not only improves orientation and brand image, but also reflects the local history and culture of the city, offering travelers an immersive experience from the moment they arrive.
