Pixera boosts the performance of the new videomapping at the Honda Center
multimedia servers Pixera from AV Stumpfl are the basis of the mapping system, made with projection of Quince Imaging, for the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL.
Quince Imaging turned once again to the platform Pixera multimedia servers from AV Stumpfl to provide the processing power needed for a new videomapping installation performed on the Honda Center de Anaheim (California).
The visualization and design expert, based near Washington DC, He was hired by the Anaheim Ducks, team of the National Hockey League (NHL), to design and integrate a video mapping system as part of a wider audiovisual renovation of their stadium, Honda Center Arena, with capacity for 17.174 spectators.
The installation comprises a major rebranding of the Ducks, with a new logo, a color palette (including orange, a nod to the team's Orange County roots) and the captain's announcement.
“Quince Imaging's brief for the Honda Center project was to provide the Ducks with a turnkey projection and mapping system with a brightness and quality that would become a benchmark in the league.”, plus a rigging package, a 3D motion capture system and real-time data integration,” explains Eric Gazzillo, company vice president of innovation and program director of the Quince Imaging team that installs, programs and supports projection and mapping systems in the NHL, the NBA (National Basketball Association) and the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
At the Honda Center, Quince Imaging has been implemented from Pixera servers (with licenses Director y control Core) with custom playback hardware, along with 12 Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors of Christie, to play 4K video content from the source to the ice rink.
In addition to Pixera media servers and Griffyn projectors (calibrated with the software Mystique Pro Venue Edition from Christie), Quince Imaging has used a router Ross Video Ultrix-FR1, a motion capture tracking system OptiTrack and your own Zelus display technology to get player and match statistics in real time. Gazzillo praises the support provided by the AV Stumpfl team as key to rolling out the new system and delivering the high-performance visuals that continue to dazzle ice hockey fans in Anaheim.
“AV Stumpfl provided me with incredible support throughout the entire process, including collaboration with Quince to ensure reliable playback on multi-GPU devices“, afirma Gazzillo.
He also praises Pixera's ability to simplify Quince Imaging's workflows., describing the media server platform as capable of managing multiple products thanks to its numerous third-party integrations.
“In broadcast or themed entertainment workflows, what Pixera can do with a single product could, otherwise, be broken down into three or four independent products or ecosystems”, adds Gazzillo. “Its ability to integrate commands from numerous third-party devices helped us offer fluid and synchronized playback with all screens in the stadium.”.
The installation at the Honda Center is the latest collaboration between Quince Imaging and AV Stumpfl, with previous projects including designing similar videomapping systems for the Boston Bruins ice hockey club and the Missouri Tigers basketball team.
