DiGiCo renews mixing infrastructure at Segerstrom Center for the arts
Six consoles from the Quantum Range DiGiCo make up the renovation of the audio mixing infrastructure carried out in this large stage complex in the United States.
Located in Costa Mesa (California), Segerstrom Center for the Arts houses on its campus, of 56.656 square meters, the so-called Segerstrom Hall, an opera-style theater that seats 2.994 personas, in which Broadway musicals are performed, ballet and other major productions.
The complex also houses the concert hall Renée & Henry Segerstrom, of 1.704 locations, and the theater Samueli, a multipurpose facility for jazz, cabaret and special events for 375 seating, as well as the Orange County Museum of Art.
This large scenic complex has renovated all your audio mixing infrastructure with the installation of the six Quantum Range consoles from the manufacturer DiGiCo, which includes a model Quantum225 which is located in the front of the Samueli theater and another in the control room of the concert space Renée & Henry Segerstrom.
Besides, This concert hall also has a table Quantum338 Pulse, located behind the audience for shows requiring an internal mixing position, while a second serves as console B at FOH or from monitors, as needed.
He Segerstrom Hall also now has a Quantum338 Pulse installed in its front mix position, with another available for monitors. The installation, carried out by Apex Audio, includes seven DiGiCo SD-Racks distributed throughout the rooms, as well as four SD-Mini Racks.
John Downey, chief room audio engineer Renée & Henry Segerstrom, explains that “DiGiCo was the brand and the quality product that everyone wanted, So it was a really easy decision.”. Added to this is the use of the Quantum operating system in all campus locations, allowing all staff to move seamlessly between all spaces, as needed.
“The ability to use a single surface that works the same in all spaces allows our engineers to go from room to room and do what they need to do without a significant learning curve,” adds Downey.. All seven SD-Racks are identical and can be rolled from room to room as needed. They are all about HMA fiber and configured in a similar way”.
That same consistency also helps staff with the wide variety of types of performances held in these multiple spaces., ranging from pop and classical music sessions to Broadway shows and educational presentations.
“Whether we need a channel or an entire console, or even for a show, everything is in the loop Optocore, just like the SD-Racks that control the processors. “That allows me to load a file without having to massively reconfigure things.”, Downey points out..
This is also pointed out Chris LeBer, president of Apex Audio: “It is a large complex of stages and venues, and they do many different types of shows, so the connectivity between the consoles and their ease of learning and use was an important factor in this choice. The way Quantum is distributed and the Optocore integration is as if it were a single console for the entire campus”.
