JBL Professional turns Ulsan digital gallery into a living canvas

Six VTX A6 and twelve VTX F15 loudspeakers have been installed in this exhibition hall. JBL Professional, plus six VTX B15G subwoofers and six I-Tech 4X3500HD amplifiers Crown, with integrated DSP.

In the heart of Ulsan, city ​​long recognized as a pillar of South Korea's industrial power, a new cultural reference has emerged: Lightroom Ulsan Baekyangsa. It is about an immersive multimedia exhibition hall, which opened its doors last April to transform the way visitors experience art, sound and space.

Driven by the vision of Baekyangsa Temple, an institution with more than a thousand years of history in the Jogye Order, Lightroom Ulsan was founded to connect heritage with innovation. The venue offers exhibitions where the digital art comes to life on screens, amplified by a audio multidimensional that immerses visitors in each scene.

To meet venue demands for clarity, uniformity and immersive audio coverage, Kinoton Korea partnered with Lightroom Ulsan integration team to implement a comprehensive audio system from Harman Professional.

The goal of the Lightroom Ulsan integration team was never to create a traditional exhibition space, since they needed an environment that would immerse the audience both visually and acoustically. High resolution projection alone was not enough, they needed a precise sound, powerful and evenly distributed in a highly reflective space.

To overcome the acoustic challenges caused by the high ceilings and open architectural layout of the venue, the team installed sound absorbing panels on the four walls and covered them with fabric. This approach effectively minimized reverberation and ensured acoustic consistency throughout the venue..

For the installation, six speakers JBL VTX A6, providing compact yet wide coverage, while twelve speakers JBL VTX F15 deliver precise point source clarity.

Six subwoofers JBL VTX B15G add immersive bass presence and six amplifiers I-Tech 4X3500HD de Crown, with integrated DSP, provide intuitive control and reliability to the system.

What distinguished this project was the use of software Venue Synthesis from JBL from the early stages. The Kinoton Korea team reported that using Venue Synthesis instead of CAD during speaker placement sped up planning and improved collaboration with the architectural team, while helping them prepare adjustment data in advance, reducing overall setup time.
