Digital Projection illuminates Kilden Performing Arts Center
From concerts and stand-up comedy to film sessions and theater productions; two Satellite Titan 4K RGB projectors Digital Projection enhance the visual capacity of this emblematic symbol of Nordic culture.
He Kilden Performing Arts Center de Kristiansand (Norway) It is one of the most exciting places in Scandinavia for performing arts and music professionals. It houses the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, he Teatro The Source, the Kilden Opera House and Kilden Culture, bringing together a variety of performances and content under one roof.
Given the great variety of programming that passes through its doors, from concerts and comedy to opera and theater, The center needed a flexible and modular projection solution to strengthen its visual capacity. The project was awarded through a public tender to Bravida, full-service supplier in the Scandinavian region, which offered a complete solution with delivery, installation and configuration of equipment.
At the heart of the facility are two Titan 4K RGB laser projectors identical; one has been set up in the concert hall and another in the center's theater hall. Both have the Modular Laser System (MLS) from the Digital Projection Satellite range.
Installed on three modules mounted on racks, The Satellite Titan system provides absolute image quality and operational flexibility that meets the demanding acoustic and redundancy conditions of the venue.
The projectors emit 10.000 brightness ISO lumens, optically combined into a single cable that powers your head. Thanks to this combination, a total power of about 26.000 ISO lumens per projector. This modular configuration offers significant operational redundancy: normally, in case a light source fails, the system can continue to function without being hardly affected. It was important to achieve a level of fault tolerance like this, ensuring high reliability and minimal downtime in the harsh environment of live performance.
To meet the Kilden's demanding acoustic needs and accommodate its strict space limitations, Bravida decided to take advantage of the Modular Laser System of the Satellite range, which allows the components that generate noise to be installed in separate control rooms and thus leave only the projection head in the stage spaces. This approach reduces ambient noise levels and, at the same time, preserves all the brightness and image fidelity.
The modular design of projection system provides numerous functional advantages. It is very easy to exchange certain components (like glasses, light sources and heads) between the two rooms, which minimizes interruptions in case one fails. Kilden especially values this type of flexibility, being a center with high demand suitable for a wide variety of contents: from concerts and monologues to artistic installations, films and theater productions.
Bravida supplied the central projection system and signal wiring, while Kilden's own technical team managed the routing of the signals and their integration. The infrastructure that the center already had, including camera inputs and a central video mixing system, They form the backbone of content transmission.
The system can be adapted to both live productions and the playback of pre-recorded content (video, presentations and mapping projections, inter alia).
The head of Bravida services, Audun Kolstad, explains the decisions that led them to choose Digital Projection products for the installation. “This manufacturer played a crucial role throughout the project, advising on the technical side during planning and training the end user to ensure that Kilden staff were able to take over without any problems. Their experience helped us shape a solution that precisely matched the design and performance requirements stipulated in the tender.”.
As an example of this experience, explains that during the installation the projection distances and optical needs were modified, but Digital Projection was able to provide additional lenses to maintain flexible coverage, allowing the team to design various configurations tailored to different events and requirements.
“This project is a reflection of how modern modular systems can meet the demanding needs of a national cultural center.”. Thanks to its great brightness, image quality, Quiet operation and built-in redundancy, Digital Projection solution gives Kilden Performing Arts Center the ability to provide immersive visual experiences in a wide variety of artistic disciplines”, Kolstad concludes..
