Roig Arena merges LG Led visual innovation and efficiency in a large-scale multipurpose venue
Dynamic, visual y envolvente definen de alguna manera al Roig Arena, a multipurpose venue that has already ranked among the best arenas in Europe, marking a triple in video innovation thanks to LED technology LG, with the highest resolution video scoreboard on the continent; an enveloping Ribbon Led and an iconic exterior 'Eye' of 300 m² of façade display. Digital AV tours this space that has transformed Valencia and involves fans and visitors in a memorable experience.
Since last September when it first opened its doors, he Roig Arena has not stopped absorbing successes of all kinds, either for the unique visual technology that equips the venue, for its unique and sustainable structure, for his acoustic care or for his integration into the urban landscape and tourist of Valencia.
In this sense, Roig Arena has achieved in a very short time to capture and attract international attention, showing a versatile and modern vision for host not only basketball sports competitions, but events of all kinds, from large concerts to shows and corporate events in its different spaces and, more and more frequently, simultaneously.
This is what he pointed out Paul Mollà, technology director of this facility, during the visit made by Digital AV to your facilities: “Roig Arena is much more than a normal pavilion; It is an intelligent and connected facility at the service of the user and their clients. that has transformed the experience of people who attend sporting and cultural events, forks an attractive destination for tourists who come to Valencia”.
Unique and sustainable structure
The tour of this facility begins outside to learn about its architectural design and the impressive technological development created with the Led technology LG on its northwest façade: the great multimedia screen 300 m² known as 'the eye’, that becomes the center of all eyes.
Until now Valencia did not have an indoor venue with capacity for accommodate 15.600 spectators, in the case of a basketball match and that turns it into a top-level European arena to compete, y until 20.000 in concert mode.
Driven by entrepreneur investment Juan Roig, through your society Lycampa 1617 and owner of Valencia Basketball, he architectural design corresponds to the American study HOK and to the Valencian ERRE Architecture, who have planned a space of 58.500 m² what integrates into the urban environment of the area, in the neighborhood of Quatre Carreres.
The connection with this Mediterranean city and its tradition is evident in the structure of its facade, with irregular shapes designed with pieces – scales or slats – ceramics, manufactured by TAU Ceramics, that emulate the surface of a basketball, con overhangs and galleries as terraces open to the outside that They let air and light pass through and that also receive their shadow.
The façade is covered with a first exterior skin to guarantee a efficient thermal and acoustic insulation (more details in the sound section), and one second layer composed of 8.600 ceramic slats, installed on a double curvature steel structure, that blocks direct sunlight and promotes a cooler indoor environment.
To this commitment of energy efficiency and sustainability are added 1.742 panels that make up the photovoltaic self-consumption system installed on your deck and supplying green energy with Iberdrola Spain as the venue's energy partner, among other elements.
The Eye, Arena Led emblem
On the largest overhang of the façade, In the northwest area is located the ya icon and distinctive element of the Roig Arena: a huge Led screen designed by LG, of 48 meters wide and 10 high, in the form of an 'eye' that 'watches' how fans and visitors approach, those he receives with surprising dynamic content and messages from sponsoring brands.
Installing these near 300 m² of Led display has been a High resistance outdoor Led technological engineering challenge by LG, with the integration of Nunsys and the installation of E2 Engineering, together with the technological team of the Roig Arena, which has become one of the largest and most visible Led structures from the outside.
How do you explain Roberto de Andrés Gómez, Led solution architect en LG Electronics, "we have integrated the Led screen with the ceramic slats of the different shapes of the façade and all its supports to adapt 'the Eye'. We analyze the size of the cabinets that we had to use, of 1×1; 500×500; 500×1.000; 1.000×500, all with a tropicalized and antisaline treatment to resist the most demanding climatic conditions”.
This outdoor Led screen offers a luminosity of 7.000 nits, with pixel pitch 10 mm, two Ultra HD signals synchronized y 3.840 refresh rate Hz to show any broadcast, with a high chromatic scale and automatic brightness adjustment, depending on the sunlight it receives.
“During the project we have added challenges, elements and modifications, given that It is a facade that is not anchored: It has a master pillar in the center and 'the Eye' is a structure that moves and to which the cabinets had to be adapted. The result is spectacular -says Paül Mollà-; is he first visual impact that the visitor receives when he approaches the enclosure, who enjoys surprising dynamic content until he reaches his seat.”.
Precisely this structure that moves and has to withstand changing weather conditions reminds those responsible for LG of the project carried out in the stadium of the Atlético de Madrid with the complex installation of Sky Ribbon, as Roberto de Andrés remembers: “This year has been very special for LG, con unique and pioneering technological projects for stadiums and arenas, that have coincided almost in parallel, and in which we have worked hand in hand with those responsible to develop Customized high quality LED image solutions, performance and efficiency. “We have worked to make things happen and that is how it has happened”.
The spectacular nature of this LG screen is enhanced when the sun goes down, when synchronizes with the LED video lighting on the facade, a system of color RGB-White, capable of interact with data in real time to create an amazing light and content show with high resolution when there are events.
Each of the ceramic slats on the façade has an LED light to project lighting, what controlled from a 4K processor, and generate a uniform show in it, whose development and configuration corresponds to the Canadian specialist Saco Technologies, which has offices in Zaragoza.
Led display of access to the track
The next step in any visitor's journey is the main access to the track., where a videowall Led de 29×2,75 metros, 2,6 pp and three horizontal 4K signals has been prepared in a spectacular way to receive you. A space with three stairs to speed up the flow of people that has synchronized LED lighting to create a dynamic environment that encourages excitement that something is going to happen.
Precisely this division into three in the access means that the visual system developed by LG can be equally divided up to three different screens, depending on the event that takes place in the different spaces of the venue, like in the nearby auditorium.
Videomarcador: exclusive image quality
The entrance to the track itself marks the most exciting moment for visitors, he effect WOW is guaranteed and the first look is directed at the Led video scoreboard suspended in the center; a structure of 257 m² display that offers a resolution higher than 4K, a exclusive image quality of the Roig Arena developed by LG and unique in a venue of this type in Europe.
Visible from any point on the track and stands, this Led video scoreboard 2,9 mm pixel pitch is composed of four LED flat screens, with faceted edges, that form a uniform and seamless image, con two screens on the interior faces of 6×3 metros so that the Row 0 and the bench can see all the match data, points, fouls, etc.
Equipped with eight engines, the video scoreboard is height adjustable, although for basketball games one of the following has been defined: 6,75 metros; for concerts you go up to 16 metros, and for conferences, corporate events, presentations, etc. a 2,5 metros.
Record in indoor Led video wall
LG's innovation in Led technology for stadiums and arenas is evident in the Valencia Basket venue, that has the Largest indoor Led video wall in Europe: con 500 m² visual surface; 3.500 nits brightness and pixel pitch 3,9 mm.
Your installation, on one of the sides, It has also been a challenge, as the technology director of Roig Arena emphasizes: “el videowall It is attached to a façade wall and anchored in its middle, with movement in three axes. They have also been installed two Led columns under the video wall.
He immersive visual impact for the visitor continues uninterruptedly with the Ribbon Led (composed of panels of the same model as the videowall), that runs through his 220 m² the entire perimeter of the court to display dynamic content during matches and music shows, all produced by Ross Video.
“All the Led solutions that we have developed and supplied to the Roig Arena They have been manufactured at the same time to guarantee the same image quality on the track, con 3.500 nits of brightness and 100% “colorimetry”, points out Guillermo Calvo, business solutions director IT/ID de LG, proud of the venue inaugurated in his Valencian land.
A technological city on deck
In front of the visual spectacle displayed inside the venue, It's also hard not to look up., a track cover, and not be surprised. As Mollà assures, “There we have an authentic technological city in itself, con more than 140 tons of rigging and 130 synchronized motors for each grill, in which the stage lighting is located around the video scoreboard, audio systems,…”.
Precisely the acoustic control and audio system installed have been priority elements in the Roig Arena project. In the first case, a space of one meter has been installed, con twenty insulating layers of sound-absorbing materials to capture the different frequencies, which is located between the interior stand and the exterior walls to prevent the spread of sound outside the venue and maintain maximum quality inside.
“We have taken maximum care of the acoustics, for what Even local residents got involved. to hear the sound, both inside and outside, and they were surprised because they could not be heard outside and inside they could enjoy the maximum quality - says Mollà -. we have many simultaneous events: a concert on the track, another in the auditorium, presentations in adjoining rooms, y the sound is not mixed nor is it heard outside”.
Added to this is that a training track has been installed just below the main track., “can we Assemble and dismantle the track to go from a game to a concert in two and a half hours - Mollà reveals -, while training in the annex and at the same time celebrating events in other spaces. we have a very flexible capacity to offer a very good asset to customers and generate income. In the underground space, trucks can unload, Athletes have their training field and locker rooms, the artists their dressing rooms,…”.
He Indoor sound system has been designed according to the spatial geometry of the main track, reducing reverberation times. "Have own PA equipment, from the Valencian company THE audio and amplifiers Powersoft. with this we make the work of visiting teams much easier when there are concerts, regardless of whether they bring their own”, points out the technological manager of Roig Arena.
For the capacity management inside, depending on the event being held and the number of attendees, Mollà explains that they have one two curtain ring system, even one that covers the stands if the event only takes place on the track, “and now we want to put an ice one at Christmas”.
Transparent OLED screens and digital signage
With a total of 1.700 m² of Led screens installed throughout the premises, LG's visual contribution continues in the twenty-five VIP boxes, equipped with 30” transparent OLED screens, embedded in the ceiling, and other tactile.
To this are added 31 Led digital signage screens and more than five hundred monitors powered by LG, technological partner of Roig Arena which will also equip the new virtual studio of the fence, designed for high quality production, hybrid events and interactive experiences, with a central screen 10 m² and other modular.
He auditorium, with capacity for 2.000 people in concert mode and 750 seating for smaller events, It is another of the assets of the venue, to which are added the Garden Room, the Gallery or the Mirador, entre otros espacios multiusos del arena de Valencia.
Faced with the ambitious technological development carried out, The opinions of basketball and music fans who have attended the venue validate this unique proposal in a very positive way., with phrases like “the experience does not disappoint and the venue is spectacular”; “an incredible place to experience sports and music”, “The visibility is total and the sound incredible”… all this to take users to a new level of excitement and involvement in any event.
