Alanis Morissette en el Caesar's Palace en Las Vegas

The tracking solutions specialist, Follow-Me, uses its Follow-Me 3D system at Alanis Morissette's show at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, providing sophisticated lighting and artist tracking solutions.

The residence, which took place in October and November, featured eight performances of classic hits on the expansive stage of 36 meters wide of Caesar's Palace. The production combined Morissette's powerful rock performances with theatrical elements, like dancers, monologues, sets and sketches that told the stories behind their songs.

The Follow-Me 3D system allowed approximately 120 devices They will function as tracking lightsor during the entire production. The system provided a seamless integration with console and allowed real-time adjustments to fit the fluid, non-rigid format of the show.

Fuse Technical Group (FTG) supplied the equipment for the residence. Lighting designer and director Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Cromwell led the production design and technical direction of the show, in collaboration with Chris Lose y Luke Edwards, by Follow Me, who provided system training and integration assistance.

The challenges

The production faced several distinctive challenges. Morissette's interpretive style moves away from traditional brands, which requires the tracking system to adapt to your spontaneous movements on the wide stage. The show featured dramatic energy changes, including two large musical breaks with high-precision industrial tempos, along with intimate moments that addressed topics such as alcoholism, attachment and detachment.

The technical setup used Follow-Me 3D with two cameras, one at the front and one at the back of the theater, to provide complete coverage of the broad scenario. The production had six manual operators who managed six spotlight positions, with additional dummy spots for keys and drums covering the entire band. Los 32 proscenium devices used the proximity function of the system to improve efficiency.

“I chose Follow-Me for this project because it was the right tool for the job”, Cromwell points out, who has been working with Morissette for almost nine years. “I could take any device on the team and turn it into a tracking light.”.

The system offered important operational advantages. The proximity function of 32 proscenium devices represented a considerable time savings during setup. Production achieved complete focus and calibration in a short time frame, and Cromwell highlighted the accuracy of both the device profile and the tracking model.

“The way Follow-Me handles its injection into the network flow is very elegant, with that sACN priority changing back and forth”, explica Cromwell. “That was something I really liked about Follow-Me on this project., the ability to connect and disconnect individual devices with it and that was not console specific”.

Las creative capabilities of the system They were essential to the narrative of the production. During The Reasons I Drink, as Morissette moved around the stage and the dancers entered, the lights were progressively fixed on her, until reaching approximately 86 devices, before flying to different positions as the dancers left during the chorus.

“We are using lights to literally tell the story of what is happening on stage”, describe Cromwell. “I can crossfade between the lights on tracker one and the lights on my band preset, so that, as I come and go, the lights literally jump between Alanis and the band, and I don't have spotlight operators trying to zigzag between the two”.

The centerpiece of the production was a spine-shaped structure, called Chakra Truss, with seven taillights that converged at three specific points during the show. Each song was designed around a specific chakra color of these taillights, creating a cohesive visual narrative throughout the entire performance.

Back toIntuitive programming interface of the system turned out to be a great advantage. Despite the complexity of the show, which included theatrical elements unusual in Morissette's previous tours, the production team achieved a full load with the final schedule in just two days.

“That is another of the great advantages of Follow-Me, I learned it in a day and a half”, Cromwell concludes. “Ultimately, Follow-Me made this incredible spotlight show possible in just two days. allows me, as designer, create those magical theatrical moments, thanks to its speed, precision and ease of use”.
