Middlesex Sound & Lighting (MSL) designs and supplies all the audiovisual technical infrastructure of the new Fairgame City, and “giant playground for adults” en Canary Wharf (London), in which a hundred loudspeakers have been installed Martin Audio.

Located in the thriving One New Change leisure and dining center, with spectacular views of St. Cathedral. Paul, Fairgame City has around one hundred Martin Audio speakers (above all CDD6 y SX110, in eight different audio zones). In fact, from all Martin Audio global partners, MSL has been possibly the largest specifier of the CDD series.

With the evolution of the Fairgame concept, MSL recognized that it needed to incorporate a Larger, scalable sound system that could be used when necessary. To give an idea of the scale, This underground location has a colossal surface area of 2.275 square meters, with a space that includes 12 exclusive games, food truck, bars and areas for private events.

Where high audio is required, has been installed BlacklineX in the main bar area, where is the dj (with a pair of XP12 monitors), along with the private events area. These are combined with the subwoofers SX210 / SX212, more powerful, while the toilets and auxiliary areas have the series Adorn by Martin Audio.

All the Signal distribution is done through a Dante network, con BSS wall panels located and line switching Netgear. entire network, including effects and room lighting, controlled from a mobile master iPad.

Audio containment

The MSL project team was led by Toby Jones, who also designed and implemented the system, in collaboration with the co-founder of Fairgame, Richard Hilton, and the director of operations, Toby Cowan. He also collaborated in the launch Steve Billington, who was in charge of the integration of iPad control.

In the midst of this frenzy of activity, one of the challenges Jones faced was that of containment, that is to say, prevent sound from leaking into stores, recreation rooms and restaurants located on the upper floors. For this reason, chose such a large set of speakers, knowing that a large distributed system could be underutilized, and optimized it further by placing it at strategic heights in acoustic supports Powerdrive or mounting it on poles from the ceiling.

It was very important to have many small, compact boxes everywhere., at the right height and with the right orientation.", reasoned. Jones emphasizes that “the ceilings were quite high, so these custom made acoustic stand solutions kept the speakers at the correct height. CDD6 provide excellent distribution in combination with compact SX110 subwoofers, mounted on the ceiling ». This ensures that background music sources, Live microphones and DJ inputs are heard with clarity and high intelligibility”.

“In the main bar area, we installed four Blackline X10 ceiling mounted with acoustic mounts, with two SX212 subwoofers with downward-facing acoustic yokes”, Jones explains.. “In the private events area, we use eight Blackline X8s mounted on the wall, with three ceiling-mounted SX210 subwoofers to provide pleasant low power”.

The mezzanine houses the toilets, where several ceiling speakers have been installed Adorn ACS-40TS y A40T, plus a couple of Adorn A55T throughout the customers' journey to the toilets. This ensures that customers remain immersed in the sound field regardless of where they are in this large space..

An elegant and agile solution

MSL has provided an elegant and agile solution. Thanks to its own integration, With the push of a button you have complete control system throughout the facility and can change presets as needed, as well as perform diagnostics remotely. “Being able to monitor the system remotely through the cloud is very valuable”, states.

Finally, of course, MSL has provided ample headroom with a generous provision of in-wall Dante input points for iPods, as well as two DJ spots that complement the existing Pioneer DJ setup. “The ease of Dante networking and the system's scalability, with so many redundant Cat6 network cables, allows us to add more entry points at any time”, concludes.
When commenting on the installation, Toby Cowan, Fairgame COO, adds that “We couldn't be happier with the final result.. MSL and Toby have been fantastic to work with, and the quality of the audiovisual infrastructure is exceptional”.
