AV Distribution designs and supplies a projection room with Christie y Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 with speakers Audac for the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Culture of one of South Africa's leading universities.

As part of a large-scale technology upgrade, the university had already hired audiovisual specialists Digital Fabric to specify a solution for the new cinema. The room, of 18,5 x 8,5 metros, this equipped with 140 seating inclined to be used for film and video projections, as well as for daily conferences.

Therefore, additional specifications needed for microphones, audiovisual presentations and a central control system that could be easily managed by university staff. “Our goal was to create an environment where students could view their own work with the same impact and sound quality as in professional cinemas.”, states Sagrys Fourie, Digital Fabric consultant.

With the intention of creating a theater compatible with Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, AV Distribution was commissioned to supply and assist in the design of this complete system, while Ubuntu Technologies, the university integration partner, was in charge of installing the audiovisual solution.

Audac SMPQ1250Fred van der Merwe, the AV Distribution, states that “to maximize power and clarity throughout the theater, we specify an Audac Vexo system. Three Audac Vexo112 full-range loudspeakers have been installed in front of the stage to directly cover the audience, while ten Vexo108 speakers have been installed along the side and rear walls to deliver a surround sound experience. Four additional Vexo108 speakers have been mounted in the ceiling for overhead audio.. Low frequency effects are provided by two Audac Baso15 bass reflex subwoofers.

In the engine room, a four channel amplifier Audac SMQ1250 supplies 630 W RMS to each front stage speaker, while a second SMQ1250 is bridged to supply 2500 W RMS a cada subwoofer. Four SMQ500 amplifiers supply 200 W RMS to each surround speaker. “Each amplifier has an AUDAC ANI44XT Dante card for a full digital signal path”, continuous van der Merwe. “After start-up, The SPL measured at the reference listening position was set to 85 dB, with a maximum capacity of 100 dB”.

Together with the Audac sound system, AV Distribution and Digital Fabric also specified a Christie M 4K15+ RGB laser projector and a screen Da-Lite Cinema Contour with perforated surface HDPro1.1. “Projector displays student work in 4K, providing an authentic cinematic experience, while ambient lighting is essential when the venue is used as a conference room”, duck.
