RCF Grand Tangier Stadium

More than 350 speakers and 55 Manufacturer's DSP amplified controllers RCF make up the sound system of this stadium in Morocco, that meets the requirements with less than 1 MW of power.

He Tangier Grand Stadium, also known as Ibn Battuta, It is one of the most emblematic football venues in Morocco. After a major renovation, completed for the African Cup of Nations 2025 and as part of Morocco's preparations as co-host of the FIFA World Cup 2030, It now has a capacity of approximately 75.500 seating and a new sound system from the Italian manufacturer RCF.

“The project began through a bidding process managed by the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP) -explains Rachid Mediouni, president of the audiovisual company Encom and official distributor of RCF and TT+ Audio in Morocco. The performance objectives defined in the specification included a continuous sound pressure level in the seating positions of 100 dB(A) and a peak level of 105 dB(A), as well as objectives of voice intelligibility”.

The installed system consists of sixteen main arrays hung, each with twelve TT+ Audio GTX 10i IP module, deployed below deck 45 meters from the level of the playing field. Each one hangs on a custom structure, designed to withstand the strong prevailing winds of Gibraltar.

The structure also integrates two subwoofers HL 38-S WP de 18” mounted on the rear of each array, for a total of 32 teams. The seating areas under the balcony and the lower tiers are covered by 96 loudspeakers P 4228 y 36 altavoces Compact C 45 WP.

Power and processing correspond to 55 DSP amplifiers XPS 16KD four channels and 96 kHz, each with one rated power 16.000 W continuous.

“The speakers feature dedicated presets that offer advanced processing algorithms and are optimized with specific equalization tailored to the demanding stadium acoustics,” he points out. Francesco Venturi, from RCF engineering support group. All amplifiers are managed through RDNet and share audio signals using the Dante Audio over IP protocol.”.

Connectivity is provided through two independent dedicated networks to ensure redundancy and allow the integration of emergency facilities and entertainment purposes.

The great roof of the stadium, similar to that of the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, It has a narrow walkway below with significant access and gear limitations., which requires a solution adapted to fixed structural fixing points.

As Mediouni continues, “RCF engineering support group provided support for system design and commissioning, including acoustic verification using calibrated instrumentation and testing methods IEC compliant speech intelligibility”.

The architectural complex posed a challenge to deploy sound reinforcement. From the beginning, The priority was to achieve optimal intelligibility and uniform coverage, with performance metrics that strictly met the requirements for this type of enclosures. “The tests confirmed the high performance of the system, with sound pressure levels in the stadium that exceeded the requirements, reaching more than 104 dB(A) Leq under test stimuli”, subraya Venturi.

As Mediouni concludes “we are very satisfied with the results. “This project establishes a new benchmark for sound in stadiums in Morocco”.
