Bruce Mason Centre

The Bruce Mason Center in Takapuna (Auckland, New Zealand) completes the complete upgrade of your main audio system with a set of solutions Harman Professional, based on a new VTX A6 line array system from JBL Professional to support the venue's extensive program of live performances.

Powered by Auckland Live on behalf of Tataki Auckland Unlimited, this enclosure 1 100 seats serves as a regional center for musical events, comedians, dance and community, with capacity that can be converted from a tiered auditorium to an open-plan configuration for receptions and special programs.

After two decades of operation, The previous system no longer met the demands of touring productions or the requirements of modern performances. In collaboration with the distributor JPRO, the venue selected the line array JBL VTX A6 for its power, size efficiency and mounting flexibility, allowing arrays to adapt to changes in seating arrangements and stage configuration. The final system design also incorporated subwoofers JBL VTX B18, JBL AC18 compact speakers, amplificadores Crown I-Tech y BSS processors to deliver greater clarity and consistency throughout the venue.

The facility has two suspended arrangements, each of which consists of 12 JBL VTX A6 elements 6 inches. Doce subwoofers JBL VTX B18 de 18 Stackable inches provide low-frequency coverage in a cardioid configuration and can be suspended or floor-stacked, depending on the event. Eight JBL AC18 speakers provide a uniform sound for customers sitting in shaded areas. All speakers are powered by Crown I-Tech 43500HD amplifiers, with BSS BLU-806 processors that provide signal management throughout the network system.

Simulation with 3D Venue Synthesis

System design and prediction were completed using the Venue Synthesis 3D acoustic simulation software the JBL, that shaped the coverage, Orientation and delay structures in multiple configurations.

Tim Robertson, JPRO Tour Sound Director, states that “platform allows for accurate angle prediction, System tuning and delay time optimization for each speaker position. It is very accurate compared to real world performance, which considerably speeds up live adjustment and commissioning of the system”.

To facilitate rapid implementation of the theater's varied programming, The team used the ArrayLink application from JBL to develop six presets that simplify reconfiguration. In combination with the quick mounting features of the VTX A series, arrays can be scaled and repositioned in less than 30 minutes, allowing the technical team to adjust everything, from concerts to family entertainment.

Lindsay Clements, from the Bruce Mason Center technical team, points out that “VTX mounting system offers the flexibility and performance the venue needs for its varied event programming. The sound is clean and holds up perfectly across different instruments and sources”.
