Epson has launched the Moverio BT-100, the first transparent 3D personal imaging system, connected and with Android.

Epson has announced a new set of virtual reality glasses called Moverio. This personal “display” has a particularity that makes it unique: It is the first of its kind with a “transparent” screen that, in addition to showing us the image we want to see, It allows us to see what is in front of us in reality. This device is capable of creating a virtual display in which we can view all types of content, 3D o 2D, as if it were a movie screen.

The device, that looks like something out of a science fiction movie, includes two small displays located on the temples that project two 960x540 pixel images on the front surface, What is a false mirror or translucent mirror. The front of the Moverio is removable, so that we can see what is in front of us or cover the visor with a darkened glass with UV protection like that of sunglasses, or darken it completely to enter total isolation.

The system includes headphones that emulate Dolby sound. The video signal comes from a pocket transmitter device that connects with a cable to the viewer. It is a multimedia player equipped with a WiFi N connection, MicroSD card slot, a small touch screen, Android operating system 2.2 and 1GB of internal storage.

Con 160 grams of weight and quite compact measurements, The Epson Moverio BT-100 supports MPEG-4 formats, AVC and H.264 among others, both in traditional format and in 3D side-by-side format. The sensation when observing the displays of these “glasses” is described by Epson, similar to being in front of a screen 320 inches to about 20 meters away.
