The footwear brand Timberland has developed a new store concept with interactive touch points that offer the possibility of creating more meaningful connections with consumers.

Timberland has launched an interactive in-store shopping experience using digital signage. The footwear store chain has worked with the design firm Apologue Experience Design to create an interaction between the product and innovation in digital signage, to transform “the typical tactile point of sale into a more meaningful communication tool that delivers relevant information and engaging content to the universal Timberland consumer.

Timberland's interactive store concept has been developed as a collaboration between Apologue Experience Design, which has provided the concept of development, strategy, creative direction and production, Automata Studios, who has handled additional art direction and interface design; Iron Claw, who has been involved in the development of custom software, y Audio, Video & Controls, which has supplied the system design and technology integration.

Together they have designed a personalized information system, open source, cloud-based and HTML5, capable of dynamically retrieving remote data while creating unique stories generated in real time that are distributed to multiple digital touch points across all Timberland stores worldwide.

Feedback between the client and the brand

The system allows the firm to add and tag assets for immediate integration while managing and monitoring them from a central location.. The interactive digital signage touch point can also function as a kind of interface between customers and the brand itself., providing information that could be incorporated into future shoe or clothing designs.

The objective of these touch points is to overcome traditional retail models by transforming the purchasing experience into a dialogue between the brand and the customer.. The system is designed to adapt, capture and learn from each store worldwide, providing unique and specific content to each store inviting customers to provide meaningful information about Timberland products and initiatives that can then be converted into meaningful data for the brand.
