Indra will improve public transport management in the Polish city of Wroclaw
Indra has been awarded a contract with the Wroclaw Municipal Public Transport Company, the fourth largest city in Poland, to implement an Operation Assistance System (SAE) that includes, inter alia, traveler information subsystems, fleet management and onboard video surveillance 251 vehicles, 136 buses and 115 city trams.
The Polish city of Wroclaw has awarded the Spanish multinational Indra a contract of 1,7 million euros to implement an intelligent system that will improve the quality of public transport, and includes information for the traveler, fleet management and onboard video surveillance 251 vehicles, 136 buses and 115 city trams. The Exploitation Assistance System (SAE) will provide greater efficiency in management and improve the quality of service offered to travelers, knowledge of the demand, security for employees and users, control over vandalism and accident audits.
The SAE, TRUE “brain” of passenger transport, It will have three basic pillars: the onboard management team, GPS-based control and location; mobile communications infrastructure based on GPRS and 3G technology; and the control center, where the monitoring and control of the service is carried out, based on geographic information systems (GIS), that allow us to know at all times where each vehicle in the fleet is and make decisions in real time in the event of incidents., need for reinforcements, etc. The solution will also have tools for generating reports and graphs, that facilitate the supervision of the service and the measurement of its quality parameters in order to better adjust it to the real demand of citizens.
Thanks to this technology, The public information system on board will be managed from the control center, that offers travelers information such as what is the next stop, possible incidents, estimated arrival times, etc. and also allows the management of advertising broadcast, news or entertainment content, inter alia.
Video surveillance system for greater security
The onboard video surveillance system will also be fully integrated with the SAE and will allow recording, transmit and display images in real time. Each vehicle will be equipped with several cameras, in some cases even 10, with the aim of offering greater security to employees and users, as well as deter and help combat possible cases of aggression or vandalism on windows or seats, a practice that represents a large maintenance cost for public passenger transport companies. one of the cameras, “the driver's eye”, will focus on the street to see what the driver sees, which will be a great help in the audits that occur in the event of an accident, as well as to know the traffic status or possible incidents in real time from the control center.
Besides, 18 Vehicles will incorporate a passenger counting system that records the number of passengers both on the way up and down., which allows us to know the occupancy to avoid exceeding the maximum allowed capacity, request backup vehicles during demand peaks, carry out mobility studies, etc. The project also includes a navigation support system for the driver that indicates by voice the orders transmitted from the control center to regulate the service..
All the technology implemented by Indra is specially designed to withstand extreme temperature conditions., since in Wroclaw temperatures can reach below 15 degrees below zero in winter.
