Pioneer launches a GPS with augmented reality via HUD
The Japanese company Pioneer has announced two new Cyber Navi car GPS navigators that combine augmented reality capabilities with a Heads-up Display system (HUD) laser-based with the MicroVision signature to project any relevant data on the windshield in full color.
Pioneer has presented two new browsers in its Cyber Navi series in Japan, the AVIC-VH99HUD and the AVIC-ZH99HUD, that combine Heads-up Display systems (HUD) of MicroVision and augmented reality. The HUD system, which can be placed in most current cars, simulates a screen 37 inches with resolution of 720×260 pixels and brightness of 12.000 cd/m2 in front of the driver, which includes the information associated with virtual reality. Information from the central system reaches the HUD wirelessly via Bluetooth. The effect achieved is similar to that of a video game, superimposing on the real traffic a detailed interface in which the driver is informed about the direction to take, points of interest or traffic information.
These new browsers will offer features such as connectivity with Apple portable devices, DVD playback and digital TV tuning 1Sec, plus support for front cameras (in which case the HUD information is replicated on the browser's own screen).
