Barcelona has decided to reorganize its urban bus network to make it orthogonal and will begin in October launching the first five lines. The new network will apply technological advances to improve the service and enhance user service and information., equipping numerous stops with service information screens.

The mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, has presented the new bus network, that will make surface public transportation in the city more efficient. The first five lines will be put into operation this October and the network will be progressively extended until reaching the 28 new lines (8 horizontal, 17 vertical and 3 diagonals), that will connect the city in a rectilinear way, with an orthogonal plot to facilitate understanding and use for users.

The new bus network will be distinguished by the application of technological advances to improve service, both in terms of operation and user information, strengthening the system of information panels in 106 stops (in some, even, there will be touch screens to plan routes) that will offer the forecast of the arrival time of the buses and other service information.

At least the 64% of passengers on the lines of the first phase will have user information screens at their stations. The screens will be of various types: external power supply, housed in canopies, and powered by solar energy, incorporated into stop posts in the Metropolitan Area and in the new solar posts designed by TMB. Besides, of significant stops, in Plaza de España and Gran Vía – Universidad, will be equipped with new touch screens 42 inches, in which you can interact to obtain information in real time to plan routes on all networks, in a way similar to what can be done with the applications for personal mobile devices TMB Virtual and TMB Maps.
