The University of Oviedo has provided augmented reality to more than 40 works that are exhibited in its Historical Building, which will allow visitors to access a file and 3D images of each work through their mobile device.
The University of Oviedo has incorporated augmented reality into its Historical Building coinciding with the start of a new edition of guided tours, starting this monday, 2 July. With this new technology, The visitor will not only be able to contemplate the historical-artistic heritage live but will also have access to a complete file of each work, and even 3D images in the case of sculptures, via your mobile phone, as indicated by the academic institution. For this, the University has installed QR codes, a barcode-like system that allows the user to access complementary information and high-resolution images of the works of art for free from their smartphone.
Augmented reality combines the real world with the virtual world, which allows us to offer more information to the visitor. The experience has been possible thanks to GAUDEO (Virtual Gallery of the University of Oviedo) which includes a spherical visit in 360 degrees of the historic building and a complete gallery in high definition, with specialized information from more than 40 university heritage works: from the altarpiece of the University Chapel, the rectors' canvas gallery, stained glass, sculptures and pieces of furniture.
