Cannes police (France) has used the ViFence City intelligent video analysis system from Vaelsys to improve road and citizen safety in this enclave in the Provence region., on the French Riviera.

VaelsysVaelsys, software company specialized in image analysis systems, has announced the successful implementation of its ViFence City intelligent video analysis system in Cannes (France). In order to improve road and citizen safety, The police of this city use the software developed by the Spanish company for license plate recognition. Cannes is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world and has almost 300 cameras with which the police have been able to resolve conflicts until 1.400 times a year.

The celebration of the sixth edition of the G20 meeting in this French city last year, was the reason to install a smart video surveillance system. The system chosen was ViFence City, from the Spanish company Vaelsys. This is how he explains it: Cannes Police, “we evaluate other competitor solutions, but they required modifications to the installation already carried out, which required adding material, with the risk of failure that this entails. Our decision was clear and made us choose Vaelsys, as it integrated perfectly with our Sinovia video management software”.

The solution proposed by Vaelsys included the installation of automatic reading of license plates on public roads with a high success rate (above the 90%) and the use of citizen video surveillance cameras that had not been specifically designed for the detection of license plates.. Added to this is the high-quality recording of vehicles that allows brand identification., model and color thereof, along with the possibility of cross-referencing data on identified license plates with police databases.

Speed, effectiveness and control

ViFence City has managed to increase the speed of action by automating the detection of suspicious vehicle license plates and increasing the effectiveness of the security system by being alert 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without rest or distractions. In addition, High-quality recording per event reduces video search times and storage needs without sacrificing information or level of detail.

As the Cannes police point out: “The tool helps the operator make decisions.. Now it is possible to search for recordings more quickly if you know a certain license plate or part of it. Besides, the adaptability shown by Vaelsys with our video management software, Synovia, allows us to use a single interface, integrating the entire operation and simplifying its use”.

Carolina Caballero, Vaelsys Marketing manager, has pointed: “For us it is essential to work according to the quality objectives of the projects we carry out. The license plate recognition system has been installed in citizen video surveillance cameras already located in the city, getting, one more time, an optimal solution, saving costs and improving the quality of the system already installed”.

For your part, Christophe Duffaud, by INNEO, has indicated: “Our future goal is to create a mesh with cameras throughout the city to recognize license plates in order to control vehicles entering and exiting the city”.
