'I can't get up today': a musical of the years 80 with 21st century audiovisual techniques and Robe lighting
The musical 'Today I can't get up' returns to the stage with a staging where the latest audiovisual technologies have been taken into account., among which are five LED screens, another of 200 square meters, as well as video projections. To produce the lighting effects they have opted for Robe technology.
The musical 'Today I Can't Get Up' (HNMPL) returned to the Madrid stage last September. The Coliseum Theater has been the setting chosen for the staging of this new version that tells the story of two young musicians who try to survive in the Madrid of the 80, a decade in which the so-called “Movida Madrileña” began to emerge. A musical that has as its backdrop the songs of the Spanish group Mecano.
Audiovisual equipment plays a very important role in the staging of this musical. As far as lighting is concerned, the design is the responsibility of Carlos Torrijos, who has opted for lighting technology. Robe since, as he himself explains, “I wanted to give this production a specific style.”, with a real mix of theater and rock and roll. “This is the first time I have used Robe products in my work, but after seeing several options that would provide me with the best beam light with moving head on the market, I chose the Pointe.”.
The show has several contrasts with a wide variety of dynamics “not seen in classic theatrical musicals.”, Therefore, individual visual treatments were required.".
The stage has 24 Pointe systems mounted on LX bar 6, a position created especially for this production using a flown triangular structure with variable speed motors and also with counterweight. The Pointe are distributed over the lower edge of the structure, which is covered with Elidy LED panels..
Using the Pointes allowed Torrijos to produce various lighting moods and specific effects that would not have been possible with other light sources., which caused a great impact on other members of the creative team. The versatility of the Pointe, which can operate as beam, spot, wash or effects device, has helped save space in assembly and provide a solution for various situations.
For staging, The musical has technical support and lighting equipment, sound and video flights, while the company ASL Light Solutions has been in charge of supplying the audiovisual systems.
Other LED and stage structures are automated in the show, which also incorporates five LED screens, in addition to another giant size of the latest generation of 200 meters four and 5,2 mm (like the one that Madonna or Robbie Williams have used on their tours) which is powered by video projectors 24.000 lumen, like the ones used in the London Olympics 2012. As far as lighting is concerned, they have been used 400 lights, both mobile and landline, in this montage.
