Administrations and global public entities already obtain value from the Internet of Everything
More than forty use cases for the Internet of Everything (IoE) Administrations and public entities around the world show how they are taking advantage of the power of connections to reduce costs, optimize processes and improve services, according to a report published by Cisco and prepared by Cicero Group.
The new report published by Cisco reveals how Administrations and public entities around the world are already obtaining value from IoE, the new phase of the Internet that is characterized by the billions of connections established between people, processes, data and objects.
Prepared by the consultant Cicero Group through personalized interviews with those responsible for the public sector, The report includes forty IoE use cases around the world applied to multiple fields, like smart cities (parking inteligente, electricity and water management, public transport, etc.); health care (telemedicine); online education or security (emergency coordination, fire prevention…), inter alia.
The study also serves as a reference for good practices and success factors that can be adopted by other public organizations around the world., including the deployment of smart IP networks, citizen participation through mobile devices and applications or advanced Big Data analytical and collaboration tools.
Spanish public sector
In Spain, the cases of the administrations of Barcelona and Santander are analyzed, that thanks to its commitment to connectivity through broadband networks and close public-private collaboration, have become international benchmarks of innovation.
In this sense, Cisco estimates that with IoE a value will be obtained around 3,5 trillions of European euros for Public Administrations around the world between the years 2013 y 2023, and of which Spain could achieve more than 73.000 million euros.
In the case of Barcelona, have been made 83 projects framed in 12 areas, in which this council has optimized citizen services and has obtained significant savings (encrypted in 42 million euros annually with water management and in 27 millions with smart lighting), In addition to increasing your income in 36 million euros annually with smart parking and generate 47.000 jobs.

With a network of 25.000 sensors deployed throughout the city to collect information and monitor traffic, transportation, lighting, the noise, pollution or water quality, Santander has reduced a 80% traffic congestion, in addition to deploying open applications that improve the services offered by the council and facilitate citizen participation.
