The Virgen del Rocío Hospital optimizes surgical processes with augmented reality
The application developed in the T-Systems virtual reality center allows, by recognizing an image, position a 3D model on the patient. This will help the medical team in making decisions before and during the operation..
In collaboration with Digital Health, The Virgen del Rocío Hospital has implemented an augmented reality application from T-Systems that allows viewing a patient's organ as a three-dimensional model on the screen of glasses Epson I will move, that represents it on the patient's body.
This technology, which has been developed at the Virtual Reality Center of T-Systems, is part of a 3D projection of medical images initiative.
In the center of Seville, The use of this augmented reality project allows the medical specialist to have a first realistic approximation of the surgery to be performed, helping you in planning interventions and in the prior decision-making process, as well as during surgery.
The project is developed in several phases. First, the case of each patient and its specific requirements are identified to later define and design the medical image. (Dicom).
The medical image is obtained and validated at the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville. (NAS) y, from this point, The preparation of the three-dimensional model of the organ begins and is loaded into the system-specific software, VirSSPA.
The capabilities of the T-Systems solution include segmentation of the part of the heart to be studied, geometry cleanup, reducing polygons and exporting them to a format compatible with viewing software.
T-Systems augmented reality solution increases security, efficiency and reliability for the patient, but also the amount of information available to the doctor.
