Big Data is the fundamental basis that Learning Analitycs uses on the data that the students themselves generate in their training processes., allowing intelligence to be extracted from the data and made available to improve learning.
Victor Racionero, Head of Technology at Telefónica Digital Education, advanced that “at this time we are already making intensive use of descriptive analytics, which is what allows us to collect, describe and visualize data, encompassing different procedures that organize, summarize and present data for analysis. “We have made substantial progress in predictive analytics, which allows us to anticipate results and propose corrective measures.”.
In parallel, Racionero pointed out how the first steps in prescriptive analytics are already being taken, that anticipates what is going to happen, when and why, so that decisions can be made taking advantage of opportunities for new learning or mitigating risks such as abandoning the course.. This demonstrates that Digital Education/Training is a powerful tool adapted to new needs., accessible, customizable and inclusive to different talents found at all socioeconomic and cultural levels.
Yuma Inzolia, manager of MiríadaX and Special Projects of Telefónica Digital Education, influenced the benefits of Learning Analytics in each of the actors who participate in the training processes: from the teacher, to the student or the organization that develops the training plan, through the exploitation of the data generated together with the indicators to measure the achievement of the stated objectives.
It allows teachers to identify variables that influence student behavior in order to detect learning difficulties that affect student performance..
For optimization, makes it possible to unify groups of students with similar learning patterns to offer additional services or recommend courses based on those previously taken by the user and by students with a similar profile; interpret user interactions with communication tools to detect improvements; discover courses and students with a greater probability of dropping out to reduce it by influencing tutoring, etc.
