Madrid City Council is committed to smart mobility with Kapsch technology
The project aims to capture comprehensive data, through the use of artificial vision cameras and big data techniques, to accurately know the real traffic situation in the pedestrian city, bicycles, motorcycles and cars.
Kapsch TrafficCom, Austrian technology provider, services and solutions for intelligent transportation systems (ITS), has been chosen by Madrid City Council for the implementation of a smart mobility system, to which a total investment of 1,9 million euros.
According to the terms of the contract, Kapsch will be in charge of expanding the data collection network on the streets of Madrid by installing a network of 120 permanent gauging stations, equipped with intelligent artificial vision sensors for traffic counting, as well as forty other stations for pedestrians and cyclists, in order to continuously monitor mobility on the streets of the capital.
For the processing of information, the city council will install Kapsch's EcoTrafiX software platform, a tool designed to capture, add, archive and monitor various data sources, helping municipal technicians to obtain an aggregate view of them for subsequent analysis.
The urban traffic management solution will integrate the data collected at the stations with different specific measurements, such as traffic intensities, instant speeds, directional gauges and park characterization, as well as those that are considered necessary by the General Subdirectorate of Mobility and Transport Implementation.
The Madrid City Council will be able to analyze and identify the causes of congestion and provide effective solutions to reduce them.. The system will unify the data obtained from a statistical sample of sensorized vehicles, thus obtaining real-time information about traffic, as well as that from other municipal services, as municipally owned parking lots (location, use) and on public roads (TO BE), those referring to complaints, public transport, etc.
The EcoTrafiX platform will improve the current traffic data management of the city of Madrid, with new types of reports and objective data to improve the management of transportation systems and infrastructure. It will also provide new tools for adequate planning of future actions..
