The Montserrat Caves open to 3D projection and Led lighting to explain their history
The specialist Wasabi Produccions has carried out the audiovisual production and integration of laser projectors and synchronized lighting for this show.
Located in the municipality of Collbató, in the Catalan Bajo Llobregat (Low Llobregat), the tourist enclave of the Montserrat Caves has reopened to more than 20.000 annual visitors that it received after a closure and renovation process.
Specifically, on the guided tour of the Salnitre Cave, a gallery of 500 meters of travel of the three that exist, An impressive audiovisual show of 3D projection and synchronized lighting is offered to explain the history of these famous caves and their surroundings, with the Virgin of La Moreneta, and that has served as inspiration for geniuses like Gaudí.
The audiovisual production and execution of the mapping show inside the caves, seventeen minutes long, It has been the responsibility of the Catalan specialist Wasabi Producciones, for which two 3LCD laser technology video projectors are used. Epson, specifically the EB-L1300U model, with WUXGA resolution and a brightness of 8.000 lumens each, that work in warping and blending.
For synchronized playback, both the projection and the LED lighting of the show, players are used BrightSign and the control system Crestron. To counteract the environmental conditions of this environment, mainly from humidity, Wasabi Produccions has installed all the equipment inside an IP65 protected waterproof box.
“We opted for laser projectors for reasons of avoiding heat and almost no maintenance as they do not require a lamp.”, as well as the LED lighting, with about twenty projectors, to provide a reliable solution with maximum durability that was protected from humidity”, they point out from this production company.
Another of the challenges that this audiovisual specialist has faced has been projection on an irregular surface with cracks like that of the cave to create the content..
For this, The Wasabi Produccions team previously scanned in 3D the entire relief of the cave wall in which the mapping is carried out and filmed scenes with real actors, “and the result has been spectacular”.
In addition to the history of the caves and the environment that is projected on these irregular rock walls, with 3D animations, moving images and synchronized lighting effects, The show has an original soundtrack created by the artist Francesc Gener, creating an environment of total immersion in the visitor.
