'Immersive' virtual reality takes another step on a 5G network with Huawei and Telefónica
This is the first interactive 'immersive' virtual reality service., presented at MWC 2018, which uses the functionality of network slicing on an end-to-end 5G network.
Huawei y Telefónica have been pioneers by showing for the first time, at the Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) in Barcelona, this interactive 'immersive' virtual reality service on 5G supporting network slicing, which will allow operators new business opportunities to introduce these services in different industries such as education, health, entertainment, etc.
A complete 5G network has been used in the demonstration of this advance, including radio access, of transport, the network core and the terminals, highlighting how the functionality of network slicing of 5G networks will allow us to offer diversified services on demand and ensure connectivity with high speeds and low latencies, helping operators in the deployments of this type of network.
MWC professionals have thus learned about the latest achievements in technology verification research and 5G use cases., marking another significant milestone in the joint innovation and cooperation activities that both companies have been carrying out.
The functionality of network slicing It is considered the key technology for operators to build a network architecture with guaranteed services that provide specific services.. This way, will be able to isolate network resources, on demand, on a shared physical infrastructure, to offer differentiated and quality network services for different vertical markets.
For Enrique Blanco, global CTIO of the Telefónica group, “The development of 5G has entered a new stage. Huawei and Telefónica 5G joint innovation laboratory is an excellent platform for in-depth cooperation, for the analysis and development of technology network slicing, “that will serve as a fundamental pillar for the commercial launch of 5G networks”.
In this line, Edward Deng, president of Huawei's radio access networks area, emphasizes that “the development of technology network slicing in 5G networks and their applications will promote integration between industries and create new business models. “We are committed to the development and innovation of this end-to-end technology in 5G networks and to working with both operators and vertical industry players for its development and deployment.”.
