The front display, o Head-Up Display (HUD), is a holographic system that projects relevant information to the user without them needing to take their eyes off the road.

Digilens and Continental HUD displaysThe German company Continental will develop together with DigiLens, experts in holographic devices and augmented reality, the new Head-Up Display screens (HUD), term that refers to projection technologies to improve driving, reducing information consultation time and thus not taking your eyes off the road, in addition to the visual fatigue caused by prolonged focusing on the same point on the horizon.

Unlike other similar systems, based on the so-called 'mirror' reflection that enlarges the images, Head-Up Display system integrates holographic waveguide technology, offering a wider viewing area to the user, while reducing the size of the surface needed for projection, thanks to a transparent screen on which information is projected to the user in the same field of vision.

As Thorsten-Alexander Kern explains, head of HUD product development at Continental, “reducing the size of the Head-Up Display, This augmented reality waveguide technology has the potential to revolutionize the market, by betting on different applications in addition to automotive, such as motorcycle or aviation helmets”.
