Toledo, the universal city
Within the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the show 'Toledo, the Universal City' will show the universal contribution of the city and its historical legacy, cultural, artistic and literary.
For this they will be used 12 projectors 22.000 lumens each and four projectors 30.000, that will turn the façade of the Alcázar into a gigantic projection screen using the mapping technique, which consists of projecting images on real surfaces on which optical illusions and three-dimensional effects are generated. In addition, The show will feature some 60.000 watts of sound power distributed across four audio points.
The soundtrack has been composed specifically for this show, adapting it to the narrative rhythm and the locution.
The projection will cover milestones and enclaves essential for understanding the history of the city. The façade of the Alcázar will become the 3rd century Roman Palace that was the seat of the praetor (vestige of the first construction that dominated the city of Toledo from the rocky and elevated enclave that overlooks the town).
After this, the Alcázar, current headquarters of the Library of Castilla la Mancha, will simulate opening its walls so that the viewer, through the books that will be shown before your eyes, remember the artistic heritage, literary, landscape and gastronomy of the city.
Another of the highlights of the show will be the memory of the twinning of Toledo with the city of the same name located in Ohio in 1931 (becoming the first cities in the world to adopt this initiative). After this twinning, Toledo replicated this model of ties with Damascus (Syria), Havana (Cuba), Heraklion (Greece), Nara (Japan)…, cities whose streets will be visually recreated on the façade of the Alcázar.
The culmination will be a tour of the different iconography and artistic styles that are represented in Toledo and that, from this city, have influenced internationally and will be accompanied by striking 3D special effects, as well as unique lighting that will form a final apotheosis of light and color.
