The Grand Theater of Geneva celebrates its reopening with a video mapping of its 140 years of history
The façade of this emblematic Swiss institution has been transformed into a spectacular canvas according to the Dorier Group project, which has used four Barco UDX-4K32 projectors and the Modulo Pi media server.
After three years closed for renovation, the Grand Theater of Geneva (Grand Theater of Geneva) opened its doors recently to celebrate not only its reopening, but his 140 anniversary as an institution dedicated to music.
For this, An impressive spectacle was specially created and projected on the façade of the old building., with no less city music, to trace the history of this iconic opera house, according to the project commissioned by the agency The Thing to the audiovisual experience specialist Dorier Group, based in Geneva.
To make this videomapping on the theater façade, ten minutes long, Dorier Group used four DLP projectors 3 UDX-4K32 model laser chips, each with a power of 31.000 lumens, from the Belgian firm Barco.
Team management has been carried out with the versatile Modulo Player media server from Former PI, that integrates features like XMAP for advanced 2D deformation; Playlist management and powerful show control capabilities.
This is how Raphaël Glandut explained it, Dorier Group technical designer: “for such a large and unique building we needed a versatile and powerful media server, capable of playing four feeds to perform soft-edged blend projection. It is a very stable and reliable system that reads very large files, which has allowed us to work in a pixel workspace very close to reality”.
Le Truc's creative team designed the show and provided Dorier Group with a 3,700 HAP file.×1.960 pixels. Playing the show with four sync outputs, Modulo Player ensured the projection on the entire façade of the building, with reduced cast shadows (more details in the attached video of how it was done).
To offer impeccable video mapping and ensure that the show adapts perfectly to the shapes of the façade, its sculptures and moldings, Raphaël Glandut and his team relied on the XMap function of Modulo Player, which helped them extract the projection areas to easily warp them independently in 2D.
After the success of this project at the Grand Theater of Geneva, Those responsible for Grupo Dorier have indicated that they plan to work with Modulo Player on other video mapping projects. “As the millennials They are enthusiasts of immersive experiences, we see growing interest in videomapping technology, that we will continue to improve”, concludes Raphaël Glandut.
