d&b Soundscape offers an atmosphere of spirituality and transparent sound in worship centers

Since its beginnings in 1988, when they met in the living room of founding pastors Floyd and Sara Loudermilk, la iglesia Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church (locally known as Church at The Mill) has evolved and has left its original cult center behind, with a capacity for 800 personas, to move to new multi-space facilities with state-of-the-art technology.

To fulfill your mission, Church directors wanted audio technology capable of creating an environment in their new space that offered an engaging worship experience.. The system had to be able to support the spoken word, the performances of a full musical band and a choir of 150 you.

At the beginning of the project, the church contacted sound system integration company XL Mediaworks, based in Columbia (South Carolina – USA) with whom I had already worked.

With the launch of the system d&b Soundscape, Jerry Temple y David Seaford, of XL Mediaworks, They invited Ken Fisher, pastor director de The Mill, to attend a Soundscape demo d&b audiotechnik in a nearby church.

“After experiencing the huge difference in the representation of audio sources that Soundscape offers, Pastor Fisher recognized its advantages to the worship experience and we decided that the concept of&b Soundscape was the way to go”, Temple explains.

The design of the main auditorium presented acoustic challenges that are common in contemporary worship spaces: a space with a general fan shape, with inclination in the lower stands and uneven stands in the upper sections.

“Normally long line arrays would be used, but here they would have blocked the viewing of the screen for a large part of the public. The next option would be a distributed system but, with this concept, the public tends to locate the sound in the closest speaker, not on the presenter or the interpreter… And this is where the system d&b Soundscape could solve the problems”, comments Seaford.

Through a combination of speaker placement and source position information, d's En-Scene software algorithm&b uses the signal processing power of the DS100 Signal Engine to reinforce the sound image of what is on stage, because it harmoniously locates individual sources precisely as they appear.

This change in system design and mixing concept allows each voice, instrument or sound source is represented in a manner authentic to its original form without the limitations or compromises that are inherently present in traditional audio settings (mono, stereo or LCR).

“It is evident that the solution&b Soundscape has the ability to create an atmosphere of spirituality even in a place of worship that seats more than 2.200 personas. Our desire is to ensure that all distractions during worship are eliminated, and the sound quality offered by Soundscape not only eliminates audio distractions, but it improves the personal experience of worship.”, says Pastor Fisher.

Soundscape provides a more transparent experience for worship, be contemporary or traditional, But what is perhaps more important is that the spoken word arrives full of feeling and passion., and the speakers are made to disappear sonically. From the front row to the furthest seat in the auditorium, a 37 metros, Soundscape delivers a consistent level of tonal quality, SPL and an image authenticity perspective for each location in the room.

For this project, different solutions have been used.&b: monitor MAX2, subgrave 27A, column 16C, 24S speaker, 24S-D speaker, subgrave 21S, Yi8 speakers & This12, 10D amplifiers & 30D, DS10 Audio Network, DS100 Signal Engine.
