The Vienna Philharmonic lights its concerts with LPG systems for broadcast
After achieving a good experience with the S350 luminaire, director of photography Jerry Appelt has once again turned to this device for his white light solution in the programming of this institution.
With the so-called Summer night concert of this year, an event celebrated annually since 2004, the Vienna Philharmonic wanted to send a sign of hope in the year of the coronavirus, and continue with the tradition, although with very limited capacity and transmission on Austrian television channels.
Under the direction of Valery Gergiev, and with the international soloist Jonas Kaufmann, This first concert by the Vienna Philharmonic after confinement had to be adapted for television broadcast, work carried out by the well-known director of photography Jerry Appelt, which has subsequently been maintained in the institution's programming.
A fundamental element for this is the white light used in the lighting system., for which Appelt selected the S350 and S350 Wash systems from GLP, “which are an excellent solution when it comes to illuminating specific situations. I have used them continuously for a long period; Its white light is extremely beautiful and compatible with the camera and is the best option for transmission”.
The pandemic has caused many shows to have to be broadcast on other channels than in person., with limited capacity, “which has increased the demand for S350 systems, “which offer an effective and profitable solution in the television and production sector for the transmission of events and concerts such as the Vienna Philharmonic”, explains Oliver Schwendke, LPG account manager.
