Meyer Sound Ultra Reflex: surround sound on large format screens
Its launch is paired with the Sony Crystal Led system, although the technology is compatible with all hard surface direct view displays. This solution has seen the light in a project carried out on the Netflix campus in Los Angeles.
Ultra Reflex is the latest solution presented by Meyer Sound, brand that distributes RMS ProAudio, for optimal audio reproduction on large video displays.
The complete system comprises a high-frequency component that reflects off the screen and is coupled with a low-frequency direct radiation system.. Patent pending, includes own acoustic designs, DSP technologies and optimization techniques.
The result is full bandwidth playback, along with extremely low distortion, Precise directionality and optimal flat amplitude and phase response for greater tonal accuracy.
Con Ultra Reflex, the audience experiences precise and stable sound localization, crisp dialogues, High fidelity music and powerful effects: a quality that complements the most advanced imaging technologies.
The challenges and problems of faithful immersive audio reproduction have prevented wider acceptance of large direct view displays., given that, unlike projection screens, which are acoustically transmissive, speakers cannot be placed directly behind the screen.
Besides, Placing speakers around the perimeter of the screen compromises coverage uniformity, the stability of image localization and overall sound fidelity.
Meyer Sound's Ultra Reflex solution retains the benefits of a system placed behind the screen, while improving the breadth of coverage throughout the space occupied by viewers.
“The introduction of direct view screens in the movie industry created the need for a single solution for LCR channels. Ultra Reflex is the culmination of prediction software, the technologies applied to loudspeakers and John Meyer's lifelong vision to create solutions for the most demanding audio professionals”, afirma Miles Rogers, Meyer Sound's business development director for the film and content creation sectors.
Agreement with Sony
During the initial launch period, Ultra Reflex has been paired with the Crystal Led screen of Sony. This agreement allows early adopters to experience the latest in high-resolution video complemented by the most advanced audio technology.
“Sony Crystal Led has demonstrated its effectiveness through its evaluation and reception by the creative communities and the world of audiovisual post-production - comments Theresa Alesso, president of the professional division of Sony Electronics-. We sought to complement this image with an audio solution that not only lived up to the visual integrity, but it will improve the user experience”.
Modular and scalable Crystal Led displays incorporate MicroLed with Led signal processing and control technology, offering a contrast ratio of more than 1.000.000:1, high gloss, a wide viewing angle and a range of colors.
Campus Netflix
The first joint installation of the two technologies is located in a projection room and reference laboratory on the campus of Netflix in Los Angeles.
Designed to replicate critical viewing and audio mixing, as well as to accommodate VIP screenings, The room has a 4K Crystal Led screen 5,18 meters wide by 2,74 tall with HDR capability. The red Galaxy platform 816 Meyer Sound provides DSP processing for optimization.
The speakers are part of a complete Dolby Atmos system that features quickly recallable snapshots for the different surround sound playback modes.
The rest of the system is made up of a total of 37 self-powered Meyer Sound cinema speakers, including HMS series side and top speakers, reinforced by USW-210P subwoofers and X-400C subwoofers together with VLFC very low frequency elements.
The pioneering audio solution at Netflix was implemented by a team of Meyer Sound engineers together with Ron Lagerlof, the Visioneering; Ryan Hufford, by RH Design LLC and Studio 440 Architecture. And Netflix, the director of creative technologies, Jimmy Fusil, was responsible for the project, together with the specialist in sound technology for production, Ozzie Sutherland, and the manager, Scott Kramer.
