An iconic Greek restaurant controls its sound system with d&b R90
Via the touch screen of the remote control d&b R90 manages the sound infrastructure of the Shark Bar from Thessaloniki, including xA and xS series installation speakers.
He Shark Bar It is a restaurant and club, as well as one of the most iconic establishments in Thessaloniki, where elegance predominates, culinary innovation and shows. The premises have been renovated to offer a more innovative design. As part of this project, the installation of a new sound system has been included., which is based on d&b and includes installation series speakers shah y xS, as well as a remote control carried out from a touch screen R90.
“The Shark is not just a bar and a restaurant, It is a place to hold business meetings, celebrations and special events. The restaurant, quiet corners and areas chill-out of seats, in addition to the large porch, they had to be covered with a uniform and pleasant sound, while the main bar and adjacent dance floor needed a system capable of reaching high SPL levels for evening activities. Besides, It also had to be suitable for live music”, comment the owners of this leisure venue.
The Greek audio company Telmaco, with the technical assistance of the consulting company Aveq Audio&Visula, were responsible for designing and installing a system in accordance with what was indicated in the order instructions. After on-site evaluation and careful audio measurements, They opted for a solution of d&b.
The final design divides the enclosure into different zones that can be controlled through the touch screen of the remote control.&b R90. This system has been designed to manage the daily operation of a d sound system.&b without the intervention of a technician, a very practical aspect for all types of premises, but very useful especially for a restaurant.
Zone control
At the Shark, Telmaco programmed six different user presets that can be recalled for the different needs of each of the separate zones.
Antonis Skoditis, Sound and Lighting advisor at the company Aveq and whose intervention was decisive in the design for Shark, explains why they have chosen to integrate an R90 interface to manage the configuration. “With this system you can not only control the volume levels of the area, but also the amplifier inputs. Thus, When a preset is recalled, the desired input level is obtained with the appropriate audio source for each specific zone.”.
As Antonis continues to explain, It also allows two events to be organized in two different areas of the venue without overlapping.. “A birthday in one area and a wedding in another, each event with its own music… no problems. And all this with a single touch on the screen panel. Another great advantage is that any authorized staff user can use it, which guarantees that the client's needs can be met without delay.".
Another important aspect of the assignment instructions was to avoid noise pollution. “As the premises are located in a residential area and only 50 meters from the nearest buildings, we had to guarantee that sound immission is going to be kept to an absolute minimum, so that we would not have to face any type of complaints”, explain Skoditis.
NoizCalc software from d&b allowed Vasilis Drougas, Telmaco show and live sound expert, accurately predict the future propagation of sound, especially with respect to low frequencies.
“To control low frequencies in the main dance area, we ended up installing a subwoofer combination, some cardiod and some not, and NoizCalc really helped us make that decision”.
