Cisco predicts emerging technologies for the coming years
Predictive knowledge at the edge, services through augmented connections, quantum networks, holographic meetings and artificial intelligence technology (IA) ethics will expand digital capabilities, according to Cisco, in all sectors.
Digitization has accelerated in the last two years, transforming the way people work, learn, they communicate and consume services and leisure. In these areas, Cisco offers some about emerging technologies that will further expand digital capabilities in the coming years.
Processing at the 'edge' of the network: Data deluge will drive edge toward new application development and experience paradigms. Interactions with applications – whether they serve customers or focus on business-to-business or even machine-to-machine connections- will generate additional data for the express purpose of providing predictive insights. Many use cases will require information processing at the edge of the network., including machine learning and other capabilities.
The artificial intelligence (IA) should be more ethical and responsible: machine learning and AI will help process intelligently, and almost in real time, the large amount of data generated that has issues of sovereignty associated with it, privacy and legal compliance. Organizations and governments must thus apply ethical and responsible AI throughout its entire life cycle.: design, development and deployment.
Optimized digital services through augmented and integrated connections: Internet facilitates access to work, opportunities and services, but requires ubiquitous connectivity, reliable and always active, at affordable prices. These seamless digital services will be based on AI-augmented connections and compatible with all mobile and WiFi generations, in addition to low orbit satellite constellations. Only then will the metaverse become a reality.
Quantum computing and security will revolutionize the Internet: interconnecting in a very different way than classic communications networks that use bits and bytes to transmit voice and data. These quantum networks will provide greater quality and security, but they require a reinvention of systems and optics for an evolved Internet, with even lower latency and higher bandwidth.
Immersive technologies will break communication barriers, learning and collaborative work: In the coming years we will hold remote meetings using holographic technology, much more realistic than an avatar. Collaboration tools will take advantage of this real-time, photorealistic 3D capability to share both physical and digital content, complete with automatically activated AI functionalities.
“Emerging technologies will extend the digital models that are a reality today, from applications and telemedicine to hybrid work and the evolution of the metaverse - he points out Andrew Vilamitjana, general director of Cisco Spain-. But this accelerated pace of innovation also requires acting ethically., sustainable and inclusive, with solutions that consume less energy, accessible to everyone and that guarantee security and privacy”.
