Foren Project applies immersive technology to neurology with Mistika VR
With the Mistika VR tool SGO and the Insta360 Pro camera 2, Foren Project has incorporated virtual reality into neurological rehabilitation.
Foren Project is a Madrid company that applies immersive technology in neurological treatments and to carry out these processes uses the tool SGO Mistika VR, a solution dedicated to virtual reality post-production.
The founder and CEO of Foren Project, Charo Ortin explains that his innovative method is based on the study of mirror neurons, who act by imitation. “Its power is that it is not necessary for the patient to perform the movement, But seeing it in a third party and imitating it makes the neurons grow.”.
According to this concept, the team designed a treatment using real reality, no virtual. “When the patient puts on the glasses, we do not transfer you to a virtual reality. What we want is for the patient to see himself in that same environment, which is where it really is”, explains Ortín.
“At first we were going to record all the exercises at each clinic with two cameras with high-quality fish-eye lenses. 8 mm. This process was tedious and time-consuming.. “We needed a better solution”, states Rafa Naveiro, VR filmmaker at Foren Project.
Looking for camera alternatives, they found the insta360 Pro 2, that records in 8K and stereoscopic. “We no longer had to bring two cameras to the set, nor worry about calibration. “This speeded up the recording process.”, clarifies Naveiro.
Another challenge that the Foren Project team had to solve was to avoid having to record all the exercises at each clinic separately.. “So we decided to first film all the exercises in a 360º chroma and then the empty rooms of each clinic. So, “Once the two parts were obtained, you only had to merge everything”.
Recording problems solved, Rafa and his colleagues also wanted to optimize post-production.
“The stitching program that we used at the beginning took up a lot of our time and the results were not optimal.. This changed when we met Mistika VR, which with a few clicks allowed us to do the entire process almost automatically. Correct the parallel of stereoscopy, Automatic stitching with the Pro template 2 integrated and other tools that streamlined the entire process in an incredible way. Insta360 Pro integration 2 and Mistika VR to our workflow cut the entire process in half,” shares Rafa.
“Apart from being pioneers applying VR technology for neurological rehabilitation, The most important thing is the fact that this stimulation with reality really works. After having carried out clinical trials and verifications, we have obtained very good results,” concludes Charo Ortín.
