A Planar Led video wall renews the sports image of the University of Tampa

The University of Tampa (UT) has completed the expansion of a fitness and leisure center, adding new state-of-the-art services in the heart of campus. Renamed as Benson Alex Riseman Fitness and Recreation Center, the updated installation of 39.624 square meters includes exercise and training rooms, teaching and research facilities, as well as basketball and beach volleyball courts, teaching and research.

The expansion project also included a new Benson Alex Riseman Aquatic Center, which has an outdoor competition pool, other recreational, a jacuzzi and an adjacent two-story building.

To supply audiovisual solutions to the new fitness and leisure center, the UT hired the technological integrator Anuvision Technologies.

The aquatic center is the new home of the University of Texas NCAA men's and women's swimming teams and, at first, a digital scoreboard was specified for the pool area to support swim meets. But that plan changed when UT began looking for other, more innovative options..

“The university wanted something more versatile”, explains Summer Vyne, director general de Anuvision Technologies. “With a video wall you would have opportunities for digital signage, communications with students or to do things like movie nights. And during swimming competitions, instead of just a name and a score, They could also show videos or biographies of each athlete.”

Increased value of facilities

From a sporting point of view, Planar's outdoor LED video wall helps elevate swim programs while increasing meet visibility, according to Steven Carroll, UT associate vice president of computer operations. “The Led screen allows you to show replays and the image is bright, sharp and easily visible from multiple angles”.

Carroll also believes that Planar's LED solution will contribute to its recruitment efforts.. “When student athletes visit us on recruiting trips it will improve their vision of the facilities where they will train.. There is added value that it brings to the pool complex”.
