Samsung optimizes hybrid learning at Stevens Institute of Technology

The center has embraced interactive technology and integrated digital signage to connect students, faculty and staff across campus, thanks to interactive screens Samsung Flip off 55 inches.

Samsung Electronics is helping Stevens Institute of Technology to transform the classroom experience through interactive screens that optimize the hybrid learning of the students.

In these dynamic classrooms, Samsung interactive displays enable educators to collaborate and introduce remote and in-person learners to course content, thereby improving their participation and learning outcomes.

Located in Hoboken, New Jersey, Stevens is a private research university focused on preparing its 8.000 undergraduate and graduate students for an increasingly complex and technology-focused world.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Stevens teachers and students shifted to remote learning by leveraging existing video conferencing tools and cameras, that were installed facing traditional dry erase boards.

This initial setup proved to be a challenge, since teachers had to go to class with several devices, including laptops, tablets and cameras. Some educators were taking advantage of multi-vendor digital whiteboards that Stevens' IT team had previously purchased. However, These devices required intensive configuration and offered limited capabilities. They also had a frustrating delay between writing on the board and when the digital text appeared, which interfered with the instruction flow.

Stevens found an ideal solution to reinvent the online learning experience right on campus. Stevens' IT team had previously invested in two Flip digital displays from 55 inch Samsung for school laboratories.

After installing one of the screens in one of the classrooms, The IT team realized that Samsung's interactive technology could connect remote teachers and students and allow them to collaborate as if they were in the same classroom.

The connected classroom

By offering WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, HDMI connections and screen mirroring, Samsung's interactive display was integrated with software and tools video conference the Stevens.

The screen greatly reduced the learning curve for adoption. They could begin teaching and presenting informational slides and videos to remote students with the screen ready to use. Teachers also enjoy the ability to record entire presentations, take screenshots, save files and send them to students. Everything directly on the screen.

Samsung interactive displays also allow teachers to annotate the whiteboard with content reflected directly to remote students' devices in real time..

They can simultaneously take notes and interact with live content on their own device screen.. As pandemic restrictions have eased and a portion of Stevens' student population has returned to campus, Real-time collaboration through Samsung interactive displays has become critical to bridging remote and in-person learning.

After realizing the impact that interactive screens had had in the classroom, Stevens is now adopting them across campus, including by designing new state-of-the-art classrooms and buildings focused on interactive technology.
