Europe's first virtual production studio with Sony Crystal Led technology
The union with Virtual Board y Studios de France has resulted in the first and largest European virtual studio with a Crystal Led screen of Sony, of 90 m² and pixel pitch 1,5 mm, located in the French town of Seine Saint Denis.
Sony has joined Virtual Board -a virtual production studio, subsidiary of Group Novelty-Magnum-Dushow– already Studios de France -set supplier and subsidiary of AMP Visual TV– to create the first virtual studio with a pantalla Crystal Led from this audiovisual manufacturer.
Located in Seine Saint Denis, north of Paris (France), This unique project will offer unrivaled image quality to producers and cinematographers, since the technology of the Sony Crystal Led monitor is combined with the capture technology of its Venice camera.
“Our virtual production offer provides unique and unmatched image quality to date.. It is a pleasure to open, with Plateau Virtuel and Studios de France, the first studio in Europe that will host creators and productions that will use Crystal LED technology in a video wall of impressive dimensions”, assures Fabien Pisano, Sales Director, Media Solutions, Sony Europe.
90 m² of cutting-edge technology
This study, with a surface of 700 m², It has the first Crystal Led screen in Europe, of 90 m² y curved design (18 meters wide and 5 high), formed by 450 cabinets, each with one combination of eight LED modules.
Sony Crystal Led technology offers a very high contrast ratio, a distance between pixels of only 1,5 mm (The current market standard is 2,6 mm) even with a curved screen, with precise reproduction of details and movements.
How do you explain Bruno Corsini, technical director of Plateau Virtuel, “It took us fifteen days to assemble this screen with Sony equipment. Most studio screens are on the floor, but it seemed important to us to have a suspended structure to be able to slide floors underneath, whether they are LED or another type. “We also have an LED ceiling that allows us to integrate everything if necessary”.
High-end services
“The project was born after recording a campaign for the European Space Agency in virtual production with the Venice camera,” Pisano recalls.. Production went well, but Plateau Virtuel wanted to go one step further and that was when we started discussing it. How to take virtual production a step further when it comes to playback and also quality on set?”.
With the tandem of Crystal Led/Venice technology, Sony offers the best possible combination when it comes to image quality. In addition to being able to bring the camera very close to the screen without producing any effect moiré.
This combination, offering uniform color spaces in the capture (Venice) and the monitor (Crystal LED), has received many praises from all market experts and professionals in the sector.
“We are the only company in the world that supplies film cameras and LED panels,” he adds. Yasuharu Nomura, director general, vp. business department from Sony Corporation-. We know all the technical specifications and we know how to use them in the best way. To take full advantage of the potential of these two solutions, “The engineering teams collaborated closely on its development and design.”.
“Every time we spoke to Sony, we gave them very precise specifications. In addition, when we could do tests, We work directly with your technicians, both in hardware and software. They accompanied us in many tests. Today we have developed a complete synchronization system with the Sony Venice camera”, points out Corsini.
Productions of the future
This new 'laboratory' study, designed for unique audiovisual and cinematographic productions, It has also been designed for television production, which offers new possibilities to AMP Visual TV.
This is what he points out Igor Tregarot, deputy general manager of AMP Visual TV: “We had the idea of this 'laboratory platform' or the possibility of responding to all types of requests. This technical curiosity has also led to the success of our company. And, besides, We associate with this 'laboratory' a brand like Sony and collaborators like Plateau Virtuel, We incorporate a unique dynamic and we hope to have positive results”.
long lasting relationship
This tripartite project unites three important companies in the audiovisual and production industry. Plateau Virtuel is the creator; as supplier of the Studios de France space, and as an equipment technology provider, Sony.
“Sony is a true partner that maintains a customer-supplier relationship that goes beyond the traditional,” he says. Thomas Menguy, general delegate of Plateau Virtuel-. In technological projects of this type, requiring constant research and development, It is essential that there is a collaborative and habitual relationship with the manufacturer. We maintain a constructive and winning relationship, and this came to life when we put it all together with their engineers and technical teams”.
To the presentation of the study, that will take place next 12 February in Seine Saint Denis, some will follow technical workshops that will be held on 16 of February and 30 March.
