UWTSD invests in immersive rooms for an innovative interactive experience
This educational center has worked together with IDNS to create immersive spaces that offer engaging augmented and virtual reality experiences to encourage learning.
the university Trinity Saint David (Ultra) has collaborated with different AV providers to create two immersive rooms that provide students with innovative learning spaces. under financing, in part, of the Higher Education Council of Wales (Hefcw), The university has worked with IDNS to install, on the Carmarthen and Swansea campuses, the first learning spaces of this type in the Welsh area.
The rooms have, on three of its walls, with the most avant-garde LED screens Samsung (two of 5,76 meters and one of 4,8 metros) to create a fully immersive virtual and augmented reality user experience.
These learning spaces allow students to experience the virtual reality, 360° videos and images and applications through immersive software Igloo Vision. This is a very effective way for many students to develop their knowledge and skills.. Provides digitally created content and artificial environments that accurately replicate real-life scenarios so that new skills and techniques can be learned and honed.
Students are not simply passive spectators; They become active participants who directly influence the results. It also offers a safe, risk-free space where learning can be repeated and success can be accurately measured..
“We know that experiential learning is sometimes less practical and accessible, and that is why we have invested in immersive learning spaces, to ensure that not only learning is experienced, but rather that students are taken into the virtual worlds of their topics and challenges they are likely to face.”, the teacher comments Elena Rodríguez Falcón, UWTSD Deputy Vice Chancellor.
“We are pleased to announce the opening of our two new immersive learning rooms this March. Facilities that are equipped with 18 meters of Led screens, providing a fully immersive experience for students. Whether it's virtual excursions, simulations or interactive lessons, “The rooms will allow students to interact with the material in a new and exciting way.”, states Chris Rees, UWTSD Executive Director of Creativity and Digital Learning.
“The use of immersive technology, like virtual and augmented reality, allows students to explore and learn about topics and concepts that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to replicate in a traditional classroom”, clarifies Chris Rees.
The implementation of immersive spaces in education not only improves student engagement and motivation, but also allows them to experience and interact with the curriculum in a more meaningful way. This approach allows for more practical and experiential learning, which research has shown to be most effective in promoting long-term information retention.
“Igloo Vision is proud to have worked together with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, IDNS and Samsung to offer the first immersive space in Wales. This company designs and develops the technology that can make any space immersive. Any type of digital content, including immersive virtual reality, videos and images of 360 ° and daily office tools, can be shared with entire groups in one of these spaces, “So the University of Wales Trinity Saint David has unlimited opportunities for what you can do with your immersive room.”, adds Laura Mills.
