The Real Caré Theater in Amsterdam renews its lighting with Anolis
The new lighting infrastructure of this theater has 36 luminaries Anoles Ambiane XL56, with lens option 20 degrees. These provide optimal coverage, as well as better color saturation and greater intensity than the previous equipment.
The auditorium lighting of the Teatro Real Carré (Royal Theater Carré) has been recently updated and the existing one has been replaced by 36 Anolis Led luminaires Ambiane XP56 equipped with lenses 20 degrees.
This is an attractive neo-renaissance style building located in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on the banks of the Amstel river. Founded in 1887, It was originally built as a permanent venue for the Carré circus family and their popular 'horse games', but was later reused to also host a variety of shows, revue theater and operettas.
At the moment, the circular design auditorium with capacity for 1.700 people is used for a combination of musical, pop music concerts and cabaret shows.
The equipment to update the theater's lighting system has been delivered by Lumen Solutions, the architectural division of the lighting sales specialist, Controllux, and installed by Carré's in-house lighting team in collaboration with Keijzer Techniek using custom designed brackets that were also part of the package.
The operation was supervised from Carré's side by the site's technical chief., Marco Hartendorf, and lighting specialists Michel Redeker and Julia ‘Jules’ Clark.
Sustainable lighting
Marco explained that a more sustainable lighting solution was being sought for the spacious auditorium and to replace the old white halogens., incorporating more profitable and dynamic Led luminaires.
The new lighting also had to match the dimming curve of 8 chandeliers, also recently renovated with 72 Led light sources each, They are a vital part of history, the heritage and visual elegance of the place, along with the plush red seats and velvet decor.
Therefore, Anolis systems were chosen not only for their value and reliability, but also for their attenuation curves soft and well-defined that were necessary to work in unison with the ornate chandeliers.
A general push had begun some time ago to operate the venue more sustainably and efficiently in terms of its carbon footprint., and this was underway when Marco joined the team five years ago.
Anolis luminaires had previously been used for the architectural pillars in the concert hall Philharmonie de Haarlem, but apart from this, no one else had worked with the brand.
It is a heritage-listed building., so the Ambianes had to fit into the existing lighting positions above the venue's audience; however, as they were located four centimeters higher than space, Brackets were custom made to sit flush with the auditorium ceiling for a perfect fit.
Carré had first approached Lumen Solutions to replace chandelier light sources, so when the discussion arose about general lighting, Lex produced some 3D visualizations in Delux and visited the place again, this time with Anolis products available for testing.
They discovered that Lux's requirements for space, even with 17 meters high to the ceiling, could be achieved using 25 Ambiane XL56 luminaires. However, 36 units with lens option 20 degrees provided more optimal coverage, as well as better color saturation and greater intensity (the red seats literally stood out with a pseudo-3D texture), enhancing the greatness and at the same time blending.
Ambiane are very easy to use. At the touch of a button, Lights can be changed to provide pleasant, ambient lighting for dinner parties or crisp, bright white colors for boxing tournaments. They operate via DMX with RDM and can be controlled from the stage lighting console if required (to integrate them with an incoming production), as well as from your own lighting controllers with Paradigm touch screen.
