Ení Petros (Pedro is here) is an immersive exhibition that shows the story of the apostle and the largest Christian Basilica in the world. A journey that combines spirituality, Art and technology in a synthesis between past and present. It is a visual spectacle that invites visitors to explore the history of the basilica through breathtaking Video mapping in which the projectors Barco I600-4K8.
The visit begins in the Ventagli room (Fans), where the tour is organized on two levels. On the one hand, reveals the origins of the Basilica and its reconstruction around the burial place of the Apostle Peter.
On the other hand,, guides the visitor in a digital exploration of the St. Peter's Basilica, Suspended between heaven and earth: from the saints who welcome and protect us from the top of the colonnade to the majestic dome that rises to the sky, and, at last, to the altar erected over the tomb of St. Peter.
In octagonal rooms, the tour covers the main stages of the life of St. Peter until his martyrdom. The story of the apostle is intertwined with that of the basilica, shown first in a video made entirely with infographics and then in its current configuration, through views made with the latest technologies.
Among the challenges posed by the project was the proximity of the facility to the Pope's residence, requiring strict security measures and frequent interruptions. In addition, working in the historic and sacred setting of St. Peter's Basilica demanded careful planning and execution to preserve the integrity of the site and achieve the desired immersive experience.
The project, the result of the collaboration between Microsoft, the Vatican and Iconem, resulted in the first 3D replica of St. Peter's Basilica. More than 400.000 High-resolution drone photographs of the structure were processed using artificial intelligence to create a detailed digital twin, that allows you to explore the basilica in a new way.
Orpheo, System Integrator for Tourist Attractions, Selected as Audiovisual Engineering Partner, and it chose Barco as its display partner.
Seven Barco projectors have been used in the octagonal halls in the project, highlighting different aspects of St. Peter's martyred life and its connection to the history of the basilica. The I600-4K8 were selected for their high brightness and color gamut, essential for creating a captivating visual experience and highlighting the intricate details of the basilica's digital twin.
The use of these projectors not only enhanced the visual narrative with pinpoint accuracy, but also provided a robust solution that met the project's stringent quality and budget requirements.

This year, Rome and the Vatican host a jubilee with more than 30 millions of pilgrims who are visiting the city and its basilica, in addition to the 50.000 who visit it on a normal day. The exhibition of Pétros Ení plays a crucial role, offering visitors an immersive experience that fuses spirituality, Art and technology.
