L-Acoustics responds to coverage challenges at the Baluarte Conference Center
The solution is based on L2D linear arrays of L-Acoustics. Supercardio configuration eliminates the need for delay systems, maintaining the aesthetics of the stage for diverse programming.
Los L2D arrangements of L-Acostics solve the challenge of coverage 40 meters in the Baluarte Congress Palace from Pamplona (Navarra).
The main auditorium of the Baluarte theater, with capacity for 1.600 personas, presented a classic audio challenge: achieve consistent coverage throughout 40 meters deep without delay systems, at the same time it accommodated a program that ranged from classical orchestras to contemporary rock concerts..
The reverberant acoustics of the venue and the need for a clean stage presentation, essential for flamenco and classical music shows, They demanded a solution that could deliver professional tour-quality audio., with strict aesthetic limitations.
The Baluarte Congress Palace, located next to the 16th century citadel of Pamplona, It is the main cultural center of Navarra, con 63.000 square meters of space for conferences and shows. The acoustic properties of the main auditorium and the varied programming - from the Madrid pop-rock band Morgan to the violinist Ara Malikian- required a system capable of managing very diverse sound requirements, maintaining intelligibility throughout the space.
L2D Configuration: cardioid coverage and control
Earpro, L-Acoustics distribution partner in Spain, collaborated with the L-Acoustics applications team to design a solution focused on L2D linear arrays. The integration was carried out by Telesonic, Spanish company recognized for its experience in the design and integration of high-end audiovisual installations.
The cardioid technology integrated system proved essential to control the acoustics in the reverberant space, while its compact design met the aesthetic requirements of the stage.
The venue's previous positive experiences with L-Acoustics rental systems, including Kara II, consolidated familiarity with the brand's capabilities. However, L2D system selection was based on additional criteria beyond sound performance.
As part of the Strategic Project 23-30 of Baluarte, focused on the pillars of digitalization and sustainability, The venue prioritized environmentally responsible technology, along with excellence in audio.
“The installation of L2D also represents an important step forward in our environmental commitment, since we are talking about an extraordinarily efficient and environmentally friendly system”, explains Eduardo Nanclares, director of sustainability and quality NICDO and head of operations at Baluarte.
The sustainable design credentials of the L Series - which requires a 30% less wood and a 60% less steel, use a 56% less paint and it is a 25% lighter than comparable systems- fit with the venue's ecological design philosophy.
An on-site demonstration confirmed that the L2D configuration could deliver professional-grade coverage, meeting budget parameters, space limitations and sustainability goals.
Soundvision solves three design challenges
He digital acoustic modeling through the software Sound vision addressed the main technical obstacles of the project: achieve a sound pressure level (SPL), constant in the 40 meters of depth of the enclosure without delay systems; balancing direct sound projection with reflection management in a highly reverberant space; and maintain adequate sound levels in rear seating areas, preserving sight lines and integrating with architecture.
“Soundvision's modeling capabilities were essential”, clarify Luc Espinach, EarPro audio products specialist. “We simply would not have been able to demonstrate how effectively such an optimized L2 configuration would operate in a space of this size without that level of predictive accuracy.”.
Multiple configurations were analyzed before the final L2D solution was optimal for the venue's specific acoustic and operational requirements..
System architecture
The main system consists of L2D arrays (left/right) by one subwoofer L2D per side, configured in supercardioid mode to maximize rejection on stage, con Panflex angles 90 degrees, inclined inwards to minimize reflections on the side walls.
Low-frequency reinforcement comes from a central array of six KS21 subwoofers, arranged in two groups of three units each in cardioid configuration. These can be reconfigured as left and right subwoofer stacks for specific concert requirements.
Four X8s along the edge of the stage serve as front fill, while four X12s are stacked on the floor on either side of the stage for internal padding. All the system operates with Milan-AVB, with a processor P1, which manages the network connection between the FOH consoles, and the LA7.16i amplified controllers housed in the facility's rack room.
“The combination of long-range capability, “Compact format and integrated L2D cardioid technology has provided Baluarte with a future-proof audio solution that supports its mission as the main cultural and conference destination in Northern Spain.”, concludes Spinach.
