Nanolumes SCIB University of Alabama

This research center for sustainable mobility solutions of the University of Alabama It has a curved LED screen Nanolumens, designed with NixelFlex and NixelRigid panels , creating a hybrid visualization, seamless.

Founded in 1820, the University of Alabama It is the oldest and largest public academic institution in this North American state. Con more than 39.000 students, is recognized for its research initiatives and its commitment to innovation in various disciplines.

As part of this educational vision, Those responsible began the construction of the so-called Building smart communities and innovation (SCIB), a facility designed to serve as research center in transportation and sustainable mobility solutions.

This new center houses key partners in the field, like the Alabama Department of Transportation (Aldot), the transportation institute (WE HAD), local traffic engineering entities and the Mobility and Energy Center of this state. And collaborative workspace to advance in electric vehicle battery technology (EV) and sustainable transport.

The design of the SCIB was based on the vision of create an impactful experience and memorable for visitors and students. Specifically, The upper floor is a dynamic space that reflects the innovative spirit of the programs it houses. When visitors arrive, You are welcomed into a spacious and bright lobby overlooking a courtyard; an area specifically designed to make a lasting impression.

Inspired by similar installations, Those responsible for the SCIB recently proposed installing a curved LED screen that would connect this dynamic space visually and symbolically..

Through a collaboration of the University of Alabama with Flynn Design Services y Davis Architectural, the manufacturer Nanolumens has provided a Seamless Curved Led Screen that reinforces this vision and research effort of the SCIB in sustainable mobility.

The project has consisted of integrate the screen into the architecture of the building, sealing six upstairs windows to make room for a large concave Led equipment, of 17 metros, that extends along the hallway.

“We met with two manufacturers previously,” he explains. Trevor Flynn, CTS-D, owner and principal architect of Flynn Design Services-. One had proposed a faceted curve solution, which basically consists of flat panels arranged to simulate a curve, and Nanolumens offered a better alternative, with real curved panels”.

Specifically, the manufacturer proposed to use its NixelFlex curved panels for the center of the wall and modelo NixelRigid on the sides. “Esa hybrid solution nos provided the continuous curve what we needed without exceeding the budget”, subraya Flynn.

The result has been a stunning immersive digital installation that immediately captures attention and reflects the technological sophistication of the building.. From early design renderings to structural planning, The project was meticulously coordinated to ensure structural and visual integration of the screen.

Dan Rossborough, director of strategic projects at Nanolumens, It was invaluable -Flynn highlights-. Helped us plan everything, including energy, the data, the structure and even the exact radius of the curve. The documentation was very precise and the 3D Revit models are some of the best I have worked with”.

The Nixel series offers a real curve, no visible facets, allowing you to configure stunning and seamless visual layouts. Offers great creative flexibility, since it is possible fully customize size, shape and curvature to adapt to even the most complex architectural environments.

Con distances between pixels ranging from 1,56 mm a 9 mm, Nanolumens Nixel provides sharp, vibrant images from virtually any distance or viewing angle. Thanks to your slim design and contoured, with integrated mounting, it's a screen ideal for wrapping pillars, install it in corners or that seems to float in space.

The result has been very positive: “ESB Group took care of the installation and, when we returned for the follow-up visit, everything was impeccable. The system worked perfectly and the university team was already creating and managing content like true professionals. That kind of result speaks for itself.”, concludes Flynn.
