GLP optimizes its skytracker for outdoor tours with its new IP66 certification
After the numerous outdoor events last summer, GLP sees its decision to improve the IP65 climate protection of its powerful Mad Mxx CW skytracker to IP66 as correct, more waterproof.
This device, with a beam of 750 mm in diameter and a maximum power of 68.000 lumens, has been chosen for high-profile outdoor shows around the world this summer. After upgrading to IP66, the director of LPG, Mark Ravenhill, states that the new certification “means Mad Mxx can now be permanently installed outdoors”.
Current high-profile outdoor stadium tours in the United States that have employed LPG solutions include The Weeknd (LD Jason Baeri) y Mana (LD Iggy Rosenberg). In Germany, was used at the recent festival Wacken Open Air 2025 and at the electronic music festival For people with wigs (both specified by lighting designer Jerry Appelt), con 24 luminaires deployed in each of these enclosures, while in Austria he used the device again in the always popular Vienna Summer Concert (The summer night concert), illuminating the spectacular Schönbrunn Palace.
But the durability and reliability of the device were also put to the test in Wacken., in particular, as this challenging festival venue is known for its mud and harsh conditions.
“Mad Mxx, a modern evolution of the classic xenon projectors of 3 kW y 7 kW is a formal LED, It is an ideal solution for theme parks and tourist attractions, which typically require IP66 certification, as well as for the more obvious music festivals. This new classification now meets all the requirements and standards for this type of enclosures”, Concluye Ravenhill.
